Ok, I'm a little baffled..last I checked Thomas is still under contract and he did restructure at the beginning of the offseason so why is everyone talking as if he's gone or a FA already??

The extension had appeared to be of the “Make it easier to cut him” variety. Rumors have persisted that he’d be willing to work something out to stay if we landed Carr, and the tea leaves are clearly pointing to that likely being accurate.

He has a 33 million roster bonus for 2024 that becomes fully Guaranteed on 3/17

Dalton has already accepted that at this point in his career he's a veteran backup. He signed on to be QB2, but was forced into starting. I think JW is released and Dalton is retained as a veteran backup.
I think JW might take a pay cut and stay. Dalton should be on I55 heading north.

CGM looking forward to watching from the sideline as Derek Carr plays QB instead of Dalton/Hill/Winston.
My thoughts exactly. Even if they re-sign him does anyone actually think he plays more than 6 games? History says otherwise. Also, this adds credence to the idea that Mike could've came back but didn't like the situation he was coming back to......

No one believed MT13 was coming back with AD or JW at QB... Once Carr was signed, and MT13 hit us with a "Jesus take the wheel" comment on twitter... That door on Airline has become at least half-way open at this point for him to return...

With this signing... The FO not only upgraded the QB position by a large margin... but they may have just convinced their best WR not to leave. That's pretty big.

Man, i always wonder what a player like Dalton feels in these situations. Players so publicly excited for the signing lol. Dalton did his best and seemed like a good teammate. Can't feel good
He's a professional. Knows it's a business. I definitely wish Dalton the best going forward. I think he's a great backup and can probably still start in the right situation as evidence by his time with the Saints.

This isn’t his first time. It’s been three seasons since he was a regular starter. I think he’s well aware of his role.

Probably a lot like Steve DeBerg.
I remember him making a clip when he was with the Dolphins (IIRC) directed to the fans saying, "Well, get ready, Miami. The Messiah is coming on my heels" or something like that, referring to how he'd been ousted by other teams for golden boy QBs being brought in as the face of the franchise.

This cannot be understated. This move changes the direction of the team completely. Carr is a guy players believe in. I could care less what fans think, what matters is what the players, coaches and management thinks.

I think Dalton understands he's a backup QB and a mentor at this stage in his career. He had a decent run as a starter but was never really great. While I do understand these guys love the game and want to play, sitting around still getting paid a lot of money can't be that bad of a gig.
