Mike Thomas Injury Update. Rapoport: he may need a week or two to finally play(Mod edit) (1 Viewer)

The jaded/pessimist in me says this. But I choose to hope for the best and realize, "Hey, I have no idea what the particulars are/were."

reminds me of something I read in one of our many MT threads

"My employer makes dollars, I make dimes, I'll rehab on my employer's time"

Which seems to be code for I'm not spending my free time offseason bed ridden, then in a cast then in a walking boot, I'm going to go have myself a good time, then get the surgery

Not saying that's what happened but it's possible

I have a hard time believing that many of them have bodies that heal faster. But doing this for a living gives them access to the care and diets that they need to speed the process. I was always pigheaded but when I was researching back operations I became a very firm believer in the correlation between success and commitment to the rehab process. It was the only common denominator among the best success stories.
Only speculation but I think most doctors would say, disheartedly and candidly and not to their patients' faces, that a LOT of people would have better outcomes with various procedures/ailments but for not following doctor's orders. So assuming that an elite athlete is going to be more circumspect than the man or woman who is like, hell, no, I'm not going to stop smoking or eating McDonald's, because their livelihood depends on it I think that would be a reason for slightly faster healing.

At this point, take a few more weeks. Hell he should take all the time he needs. Error on the side of caution and listen to the medical professionals.

If we're going to make a run down the stretch then we need MT. We need him now but at what cost. We've waited this long so a few more weeks isn't going to hurt. I don't want him back, I want him back healthy. It was painful to watch him gimp around out there trying to play football.

As for the blame game, at this point what does it matter? I'm just going to root for the man to come back and help this team win games. We have an all star team out right now. When/if these guys get healthy this team could surprise us.

I think Scottie Pippen is the forefather of that. He had a major injury and didnt want to get surgery on it until the season started.

To Curtis Johnson:

I never believed it. Unnamed sources says that he's weeks away from returning and that as the time approached toward the bye...it just wasn't going to happen. For those keeping track at home...this is an absolute disaster of a sports medicine case. 8-9 weeks is what you'd expect worst case scenario after an initial injury...surgery and all. Here we are going on 14-15 months post injury. It's very reasonable to question CGM's level of conditioning. Frankly, I'm not optimistic that it's going to happen this year. Sure...he could get back...but I'm skeptical that he's going to be the guy we remember, this year at least. Sorry.

Does anyone think MT has played his last down as a Saint? I would never trade him unless the haul was something absurd and could not passed up. This whole situation seems like both sides are waiting for the a trade partner.
First the attitude he showd last year. Then,MT didn't seem very happy JW became the qb for NO. Then he elects not to do surgery , putting him out up to 8-9 weeks. I see a disconnect from MT to the Saints. Hope I'm wrong.

Ummm maybe this.
General Manager Mickey Loomis said that the collective decision was to treat Thomas’ injury conservatively but that it became clear in June that the approach wasn’t working.

“Obviously, in hindsight, we would’ve preferred the surgery to be earlier but it wasn’t, so it is what it is,” Loomis said, via Katherine Terrell of TheAthletic.com.

Don't have time to pull up the Drew, Alvin, OL etc, playing hurt, slow rehab situations but that Google thing is a great tool
So, the word "collective" escapes you? Do you think MT and/or his agent had no say in that decision?
