METAIRIE — As New Orleans Saints coach Sean Payton reviewed the tape of his team’s 38-31 loss at Pittsburgh on Sunday, he could have made a laundry list of the turning points in the game.
Numerous times the Saints put themselves at a disadvantage — allowing a 40-yard return on the opening kickoff and Billy Miller’s fumble contributed to an early 14-0 deficit; a fumble by Reggie Bush led to a tying touchdown, which came on a blown coverage, in the third quarter; a missed 32-yard field goal by John Carney prevented New Orleans from retaking the lead; poor containment led to a pair of 70-yard-plus runs by Willie Parker that led to touchdowns; and a fumble by Terrance Copper killed a potential game-tying drive in the final moments.
A series of big, bad plays dropped the Saints to 6-3 as they prepare to host to Cincinnati this week.
