Barkevious Mingo NFL Draft Analysis - Oregon (2011 Season) - YouTube

2013 NFL Draft Profile: Barkevious Mingo - Louisiana State - YouTube

Strengths: Possesses a lean, athletic build with plenty of room for additional muscle mass. Has an explosive first step and the combination of flexibility and closing speed to exponentially add to his sack numbers in the more pass-happy NFL than he had while at LSU. Alert defender who will get his long arms into passing lanes when unable to get to the quarterback. More physical than his frame looks. Fights through blockers at the line of scrimmage to make plays in the running game and anchors surprisingly well given his lean lower half. Possesses as much upside as any prospect in the 2013 draft.

Weaknesses: Looks more like a small forward than an NFL defensive end and could be asked to make the transition to outside linebacker, a position he's never played. While possessing explosive straight-line speed, has very long legs, which make him less fluid when changing directions than ideal. Relies upon his burst upfield to beat pass blockers and simply hasn't developed the counter moves to complement his speed in three seasons of action, leading to some concerns that he won't.

Compares To: Bruce Irvin, DE, Seattle Seahawks -- Mingo is longer than Irvin and therefore possesses more athletic upside. Like Irvin, who led all rookies with eight sacks in 2012, Mingo's speed should result in eye-popping numbers immediately. He doesn't have an effective counter yet, however, and is a liability against the run, at this time. I was high on Jarvis Jones for a while, but now I'd MUCH rather have Mingo. Injury concerns aren't there and he's got tremendous upside. All of Mingo's weaknesses can be coached...I have a feeling he and Jarvis will be on the board. It's tempting to take Jones, but I'm sorry...I think we need to invest in the future and Mingo's ceiling is higher. If Dion Jordan were available, I would take him here. He'll be LONG gone by pick 15 though, unfortunately.

3rd - Bacarri Rambo - S - UGA

Introducing Mr. Rambo - YouTube

Bacarri Rambo Big Hit - YouTube

STRENGTHS: Looks the part. Has a well-developed, evenly proportioned frame well suited to the position.
Intuitive defender who reads the quarterback's eyes well and gets a jump on the ball in coverage. Shows good burst to the ball due to above average acceleration and straight-line speed. Times his leaps/contact with receivers nicely, showing good body control and hand-eye coordination to play physically without drawing the flag. Locates the ball and has very good ball skills. Possesses soft hands to pluck the ball away from this frame as well as the ability to track it over his shoulder.Highly aggressive tackler. Looks to lower the boom on unsuspecting receivers crossing the middle. Lowers his shoulder into ball-carriers, though he sees what he's hitting, not lowering his head and spearing the opponent and drawing the flag. Generally takes good angles to the ball and plays a key role in Georgia's defense as the last line of defense. Made Georgia's secondary calls for at least the last two seasons. Played free safety at Georgia but possesses the size and physicality to play either of the traditional safety roles in the NFL.

WEAKNESSES: Has a tendency to lead with his shoulder rather than wrapping up fully as a tackler, leading to some slip-ups. Generally gauges pursuit angles well but can get caught up in the trash when he gets too aggressive, leading to some cut-back opportunities for backs with vision, burst to exploit.
Does not possess the elite recovery speed that his 16 career interceptions might indicate and is, in fact, a bit of a gambler.Has twice failed drug tests while at Georgia and was suspended for the first four games of the 2012 season due to his most recent violation.

COMPARES TO: Dashon Goldson, FS, San Francisco 49ers: Like the 49ers' standout free safety, Rambo has a tendency to make splashy plays as a pass thief and intimidating hitter but is prone to an occasional breakdown. If he can tighten up his game (and his off-field decision-making) Rambo has the talent to earn Pro Bowl consideration, just as Goldson has done for the 49ers.

4th - Brandon Williams - NT - Missouri Southern

Brandon Williams Missouri Southern Senior Bowl - YouTube

Strengths: Broad-shouldered and bulked up, especially in his upper body. Possesses the upper-body strength to shove opponents into the backfield and disrupt plays before they even have a chance to begin. Has enough short area quickness to slice through gaps. Possesses longer arms (32 3/4) than expected given his stout frame, which he uses well to keep offensive linemen off of him. Strong, heavy hands. Experienced playing on the nose, defensive tackle and out wide as a five-technique defensive end and has the length and awareness to be similarly versatile in the NFL. Good recognition of screens and draws. Surprisingly light feet and balance to move laterally through the trash and shows enough phone-booth quickness to close. Good strength and aggression for the pull-down tackle. Gets his hands up in passing lanes to provide quarterbacks with narrow lanes and has good hand-eye coordination and timing to tip passes. Enjoyed an impressive week of practice at the Senior Bowl.

Weaknesses: Possesses a disproportionately top-heavy build and a thinner than ideal lower body, which makes him less effective as a run-stuffing presence than he might appear "on the hoof." While active for his size, is not a quick-twitch athlete capable of providing a consistent pass rush in the NFL. Possesses only phone-booth quickness and lacks sustained speed, effort to travel far. Must do a better job of keeping his hands active, as he too often remains blocked when his initial bull rush or first step are handled. Missed the 2009 season due to injury.

Compares To: Antonio Garay, NG, San Diego Chargers -- It was Garay's struggles with injuries that pushed him down draft boards rather than level of competition questions, but like the former Boston College standout, Williams' wide body and strength could make him a quality run-stuffer at the next level.

5th -Chris Harper - WR - Kansas State

Kansas State Senior Salute - 2012 Offense - YouTube

Harper is a coordinated athlete with above average body control and focus, tracking the ball beautifully and snatching it out of the air with his reliable hands. Harper isn't overly explosive and is more of a one-speed player, but has been improving each game as a route runner and is an effective perimeter blocker with a strong core for the position. While not a track star, Harper has good-enough football speed and is one of the more underrated receivers for the 2013 class.

6th - Marc Anthony - CB - Cal

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cdttlifN_ig

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=juRUxgLVWbQ

Strengths: Good size and build for the position with long arms (31.5"). Physical in press and doesn't shy from getting physical at the line of scrimmage. Feisty and works hard to shed blocks. Keeps an eye on the ball to jump routes and close in a hurry, driving violently on the play. Aggressive tackler and goes for the decleating hit. Improved route anticipation and has steadily developed his instincts. Three year starter with good production, especially at the line of scrimmage with more tackles for loss than interceptions as a senior.

Weaknesses: Gets physical with the ballcarrier but too often ends up on the ground and has finishing issues in run support. Throws his body around, but often just slides off. Overaggressive in coverage and often bites on fakes. Better athlete than he's given credit for, but he lacks the quick-twitch qualities desired for the position to be left alone on an island. Durability concerns after missing at least one game in each of his years at Cal because of injury, including a head injury in 2012.

***If we can get a decent draft pick for a RB (Ivory I guess)...I'd plug in Jordan Reed (TE) or maybe Tarron Armstead (OT). It'll be hard to get much higher of a draft pick for a RB though, unfortunately.

I think Brandon Williams will go in the 3rd round. I like the mock though. :tiphat::rainfro:

Yeah that's sort of what I was thinking. Oh well. If he doesn't fall there are some more decent NTs for depth. Thanks man I appreciate it.

i think rambo has a better shot at being available in the fourth than williams tbh, but those first three picks combined would make me pretty damn happy. If we take a late round flyer on a wideout i hope its marquess wilson who i think can be true stud and i think brees has enough leadership skills to whip is *** into line

I really like it. I think I'd rather see a an offensive lineman taken in the later rounds like Brian Winters or Mario Benavides than a receiver because we have so little depth there compared to the receiving corps, but I wouldn't complain if this is how it came out. Mingo and Rambo would definitely breathe some new life into the defense and give it some swagger - probably just through their names alone.

I am not really a fan of Marc Anthony, but that song he sang with pitbull was kind of catchy.

Really approved of this mock - great work.

Thanks everyone, I'd be ecstatic if we could get this draft! Our defense would be so much improved. I think just with the scheme change alone we will be MUCH improved, but with a mingo, Rambo, and Williams turn style in the middle....we're talking SB. I didn't add the trade for RB in because that gets on a lot of people's nerves, it's too unpredictable as to what we can get. I don't see SP letting Ivory get out of town for free though. Not even close to it. Anyways, all the best for the weekend! Cheers!

I don't Believe Mingo will make it to pick 15, most mocks have him going somewhere in top 10. Hopefully he falls and also Jarvis Jones. Brandon Williams will probably be picked in 3rd and Rambo will probably be available in 4th. We need to go OL in 5th. We still have Nick Toon who is still basically a rookie. Like the Marc Anthony pick in 6th.
