This is not a worst movie thread. Which sequel were you most dissapointed in?
You loved the original, got jazzed when you heard there would be a sequel, it came out and you were massively let down
Growing up in the eighties I have quite a few:
SUPERMAN IV - Good lord!! the original is still, with apologies to spiderman, batman begins lovers, the best comic book movie of all time. II was great also (still need to watch the donner cut) I will admit that as a kid a liked 3 alot. not so much now. but even as a kid i knew that superman 4 was garbage. I don't the name of the actor who played the villain but it was one of the worst performances ever caught on film. embarrassingly bad.
JAWS THE REVENGE - laughingly bad. michael caine missed the oscars because he was filming this movie. I cant be mad at him though as he delivered one of my favorite quotes from an actor. when asked what he thought of this turd of a movie he said, i don't know i've never seen it. but i see the house it built all the time.
GREMLINS 2 - The original is still one of my favorites. i watch it every december. I remember being so excited about this movie. i anticipated it like the second coming. when it was released i was so mad. completely different in tone than the first film. i will admit that i do like it better today. but at the time i was crushed
BACK TO THE FUTURE PART 2- the original is a classic. one of the best movies of the decade. i was new york city before the filmed open and i remember the huge countdown clock billboard that they had until the release. this wasn't a bad movie at all. just different. different and not as good. what bothered me was (HUGE GEEK ALERT) in the first film when testing the delorean doc sent einstein the dog into the future one minute. he appeared one minute later. where was he? gone. he skipped over that minute to instananeously arrive one minute in the future. when marty went to future where was he? appartently still there. he had a future self who had 30 years of history when it should have been that he just up and vanished one day. and arrived thirty years later (like in flight of the navigator) the paradox just took me completely out of the rest of the movie.
BILL & TED'S BOGUS JOURNEY - The original was NOT a great movie by any means, but it was a lot of fun. i thought tha the sequel was absolutely terrible. I've only seen it once, that was in the theater when it was released. i know that there is a group of people who say that the sequel is the better funnier film. maybe i have to give it another chance
STAR TREK V - IV (the one with the whales) was great, V was a mess from start to finish. too new agey - psychobabble. huge retcon with spock's neverbefore mentioned brother. just a bad movie all around
ALIEN 3 - I never liked the original as a kid. i do now. but aliens is one of the best movies ever. i was ready for the sequel. awful. the story is that the film was doomed from the start, too much studio interference, too many script changes. the end movie was supposedly worlds away from what was intended
BATMAN RETURNS - Ive only seen it once. that was opening weekend
STAR WARS: PHANTOM MENACE: This thread will be three times as long if i have to go into what a complete letdown that steaming load of a movie was
