I'll try to make this as realistic as possible.

Re-sign:

Jeff Faine: He is a youthful player who will only get better every year. Some people like Goodwin more because he played fairly well when replacing Faine. But Goodwin, apparently, is signed through to 2009. Faine has more experience with the O-line aswell.

Billy Miller: While he is old, when he got his hands on the ball he always got some extra YAC. Both our starting TEs are free agents and I think it would be logical to bring back the more productive one.

Terrance Copper:Has been a solid special teamer for us. He also was very good when he caught the ball. Can be had for cheap.

I would also like to see Marques, Jhari and Will receive extensions.

Free agency:

Corey Williams: I personally believe DT is our biggest need this offseason. Corey Williams is young and very good for his age. He is possibly the pass rushing DT in the league. Someone like him will take away alot of attention away from our DEs and we could possibly have one of the best D-lines.

Andre Davis: I like this signing because of what Andre can provide to the KR. He also played very well when filling in for Andre Johnson. Could be a nice No.3/4 WR.

Drayton Florence: A mid-range CB who I would not have signed had McKenzie not been injured. I know he isn't that good but he is better than David and we are in dire need of CBs. He also brings youth to the position.

Quinn Gray: We need a back up to Drew and Quinn played pretty well when filling in for Gararrd.

Draft:

1st round:

Leodis McKelvin CB

At #10 there really isn't a player of need for us worth this pick. Leodis comes close enough, though. We need to get younger at CB as well as better. Leodis has two things we need. He can play CB and can also return punts. I thought about Keith Rivers here but LBer is pretty deep in this draft.

2nd round:

Jerod Mayo ILB

I would like to get Lofton at this position but he will more than likely be gone. Jerod Mayo will come in and be an instant starter over Mark. He has all the skills needed to be a successful LBer in today's game. If Mayo is not here, Shawn Crable would be my 2nd option.

3rd round:

DJ Hall WR

I would like to see this speedster drafted to play slot WR. With Marques Colston, Robert Meachem and DJ Hall our starting WRs we would have a very young group mixed with speed and possesion. I also like Trevor Laws at this position.

I am basically now going to take draft sites info to make my next picks.

4th round:

Ezra Butler OLB

There is a few things I don't like myself about this pick. I'm not sure if he'll even make it to our pick. He was suspended for a game for breaking team policy. He seems better suited for a 3-4. Some positives though are he is extremely fast. He also led his team in tackles, TFL and interceptions despite missing 2 games. If DeMarrio Pressley is available here I would take him.

5th round:

Kellen Davis/Jacob Tamme TE

I would take either of these guys with our 5th round selection. Jacob Tamme is one of the fastest TEs in the draft and I'm sure Brees would be able to work well with him. Some sites have Jacob as a 4th rounder. Kellen Davis has proven to be a big redzone target scoring 6 TDs. Both, I believe, would be nice additions.

6th round:

Cory Boyd/Jacob Hester RB/FB

I base this pick off Deuce's health and Stecker not being re-signed. He is also the biggest back projected for the 6th round.Cory Boyd, looking at his physical attributes, seems to be a power runner. He would most likely be on the PS but if Deuce is not ready to go at the start of the season he may be the 3rd RB. He has major character issues apparently. Some say Jacob could be a 5th round pick, but he may fall to the 6th. I would draft Jacob for the same reasons as Cory Boyd, power running. Others may say PT is a power runner, but I believe he is like Deuce, nimble but strong.

7th round:

BPA

Hopefully try to find another Colston like gem here, not likely.

I like your draft, only if we are able to get Corey Williams (dont think he is the best pass rusher in the league....kind of a reach to sell him) but to follow that with the corner and the MLB in the 2nd round is good....and I dont know who the linbacker it is you had us taking in the 4th, but the way you described him is the kinda player/players we need at the position, not just guys who have the size to play the position, but the guys who have the "knack" for making the play at the position (tfl, interceptions, sacks)

........why does everybody like DJ Hall so much on this board? in the 3rd round? we should be looking at another DT.

A very realistic offseason and one I would be happy, though not ecstatic, with.

I suppose having solid drafts year after year is how a team is built, rather than crazy drafts one year and horrible drafts the next (06/07)

we're getting help in all the areas of need with this, so very nice work Slim K, though alot of people have McKelvin going to the Pats, which, with their need at CB, doesn't seem unreasonable. If he's gone, do we take Jenkins? Or do we go another way?

I've stated it before, but i really believe that if Ellis is not there at 10 (which is likely) we should trade down to pick up extra picks. I know this may prove awkward as there is not likely to be a great deal of value at 10, but someone may be willing to part with a 2nd or 3rd to move up and get an impact maker on O like DeSean Jackson...here's to hoping! If we get that extra pick, there are more CB's and LB's who would be good value in the mid-part of the first round, so it might make that pick easier and give us more options later

I would love this A+ I love the addition of Williams Im really warming up to the idea of getting Mckelvin Mayo would be a starter D.J. Hall was a beast for bama. I dont like the butler pick... Tamme is really athletic and a great pass catcher he would start for us. I would love to pick up Hester if deuce is able to return and we dont re-sign stecker. Florence and Gray would be great pick ups for us. Gray is a good QB and Florence is a darn good CB GREAT WORK

I think it is more for the fact you know at some point that Payton is just going to have to go offense. If Hall is there in the 3rd round he's a steal. He's going to be a productive receiver in the NFL whether we get him or someone else does. I also like the thought of our top 3 receivers being Colston, Meachem and Hall. That lineup could play together for years.

I would rather OT Ryan Clady at 10 than Leodis. My reason is that Leodis may be a stretch and he is a return guy more than a CB. Hopefully the saints are not going to be in a top 10 spot for several years and having an opportunity to take an almost sure thing stud OT is too much to pass up. He would give depth and a possibility to make a future trade with JB.??

I am not with picking a WR. I would rather re-sign Patten or bring in another vet to split with the Mystery Man. Reggie could also take snaps in the slot.

I am in the minority but I think the saints can win with their DB's if the front 7 can get pressure in the QB. I'd rather see speed at LB and power in the DL. Marcus Dixon is still my sleeper DL but not sure how high he is going to go.

I like it, but I would like to see some DT additions in the draft. I know you have Corey Williams in FA, but we need to get even younger at that position. Fast.

Good FA and Draft... even though i would change 2 or 3 rounds
I couldn't agree more that DJ Hall will be productive where ever he goes... I also think E.Royal would be a nice pick up... with D.Patten teaching this guys the ropes...
Our WR group would look like this
1.Colston
2.Patten
3.Meachem
4.Hall/Royal with either we draft with the 3rd pick "IF WE DO"
5.R.Bush/L. Moore if moore stays
now thats any QB (WR dream team) no more worse on WR for years to come
as for as the draft
1. DRC, Talib if Rivers in gone
2. Lofton, Mayo or Bryant dude is a beast
3. DJ HALL OR EDDIE ROYAL
4. Lowery an interception machine and if he is still there. Terrell
5. Test tight end prefer Cottam if he is still there
6. DEFENSE
7. DEFENSE

I HOPE WE GO ALL DEFENSE IN THE DRAFT AND FREE AGENT BUT DRAFT HALL OR ROYAL WE NEED EITHER ONE OF THEM... AND A GOOD TE :worthy:

Hall is injury-prone and has a bad attitude.
DT Starks - WR - Johnson - CB Florence
1. DT Ellis or CB Jenkins 2. MLB Lofton or DT Sims or TE Davis 3. WR Bowman or MLB Leman or DT Moore 4. DT Okam or OLB Butler or MLB Larsen 5. TE Davis or CB Williams 6. DT Shirley 7. TE Sperry

Where did you get that from? He's not injury prone and I've never heard a thing about his attitude. I'm a big Bama fan and don't miss a game. You're misinformed.

I know people in the program. I don't just watch the TV.

Inside info huh? By all means please enlighten me. How does knowing someone in the program let you know he's injury-prone? If he hasn't missed due to injury there's no "inside source" that makes him injury prone.

Looks pretty good, especially like Williams and Florence as FA (if not Trufant). Hopefully we can pick up a good player or two in free agency, but if we are extending the contracts of Brown, Smith, Colston, and Evans there wont be much room left over. Florence should be relatively inexpensive, but Williams should get some big money. Here is my first mock draft, I created it assuming that the Saints are unable to add any key starters in free agency.

________________ SAINTS 2008 mock draft _______________

1st Round
trade down

2nd Round
MLB: Curtis Lofton or Brandon Mayo (MLB is huge need for Saints)
CB: Brandon Flowers (physical corner, great in coverage)

3rd Round
DT: Frank Okam (big 2-gap DT that can stop the run and rush the passer)

4th Round
DT/DE: James McClinton (sturdy 3-tech with great speed and pass rushing ability)
OLB: Wesley Woodyard (speedy, undersized weak side defender with huge playmaking ability)

5th round
S- Jamie Silva (very physical with great instincts, 115 tackles and 6 INT last season)

6th Round
TE: Kolo Kapanui (speed + hands + size = great target for Drew)

7th Round
bpa (look for diamond in the rough)

Plenty of teams would trade 2nd and 4th round picks for the #10 pick in the draft so the Saints will have no trouble finding a trading partner. It seems to me that every one of these 7 players would have a legitimate chance at becoming a starter for the Saints next season, and notice that the first 6 picks are defense (2 DT, 2 LB, 2 DB).

if the Saints could pick up LG Faneca and CB Florence in addition to this draft, I think the team would be solid in every respect.

I think this guy is just throwing stuff out there. My best friend is a Bama fan, and has been for years. Been to a few games with him. DJ Hall is a beast and I would love him on this team (I actually have us getting him in my mock draft)

cruize, why do you go around posting your mocks in every thread
