My Cocker Spaniel has some sort of skin problem and is always scratching this time of the year. Do any of you with pets use a special shampoo that you can recommend?

my dog has an issue with that sometimes, does your dog lick her paws?

licking of the paws is an indication of an allergy.

my vet told me to give the dog benadryll - 2 tablets twice a day, i onlly gave 1 twice a day and it helped alot

He does lick his paws quite a bit so I will try that but before I do, how big is your dog?

What kind of tablets? Childrens Benadryl, or adults caplets?

BY the way...what do you do for shedding???? I have an undercomb, but I have to vaccume and sweep everyday anyways.

For shedding I find that wrapping the dog in duct tape works well.

I know Petsmart sell a brush that is supposed to remove most of the hair that dogs are shedding but you have to use it everyday. I would think Dixie would be easy to brush.

Our vet told us to give our dog half a child's benedryll when needed....however, our dog is only 16lbs

Mine weights 24lbs so I will give him two halfs. Thanks Blake.

mine is 85lbs - a lab, as far as shedding , i have no idea, let me know if you find an answer for that

When I was a kid the next-door neighbor had a dog that was allergic to grass.

True story.

I have one with skin allergies....periodic baths in Selsun Blue medicated shampoo (the red cap) help her tremendously. I got this idea from a friend who also has show dogs....I told my vet that this is what I was using on Joy, and she said that she's recommended it to several patients as well....so it has veterinary blessing, in case you're worried about that.

That's actually a pretty common dog allergy.

Your vet should be able to do an allergy test or refer you to one who can. If it only happens during the winter it might just be dry skin, excessive bathing could exacerbate the problems.
