I've been reading through the board the last two nights and was curious is if these two trades were possible...

1)trade with 1st round picks with philly and get Lito and 3rd or 4th rounder.
-i honestly don't see philly throwing in anything more than just lito and their first for ours, but i would love it to happen, and then...

2) Trade pick # 19 and maybe a later pick for pick #31 and Jeremy Shockey. They have Boss, and Shockey seems to have his problems with Manning. New York is probably looking for a Safety to replace Gibril Wilson, and the Miami safety Kenny Phillips will be gone by then. if you get the third or forth from Philly, then i wouldn't mind throwing it back out to get Shockey.

It would remind me of the moves when we traded down and got Faine and Hollis Thomas, except better. Also, we should be able to take a good contributer at WLB and CB at those two spots at 31 and 40.

so essentially trade from 10 to 31, and pick up lito and shockey. both players are being shopped by their teams, and both the giants and the eagles have something to gain by pulling the trigger on these. Realistically, i do not see Ellis or Dorsey falling to us, when you look at the other players availiable, i don't think there is that drastic of a drop-off in talent in positions that we would be looking at(LB, CB, DT) with the pick #31 and #40.

Imagine then maybe Mayo at 31 and Balmer at 40. so from the first two rounds you walk away with

Lito Sheppard, Jeremy Shockey, Jerod Mayo, and Kentwan Balmer.

is this in any way more than a fantasy?

Why even offer a first for Shockey? He isn't worth it!!!

i dream of the day Shockey occupies the linebackers and takes their eyes off of reggie just long enough for him to slip by. then Shockey blows up a DB spreeing reg for a TD.

Why waste swapping firsts and throwing in another pick for Shockey? Odds are, after his injuries heal, he gets cut the next fight he picks with Eli.

Going with your basic scenario and we trade back from 19 to a late 1st (or very early 2nd) plus other picks, wouldn't the TE Davis from USC make more sense? Isn't he supposed to be a pass catching demon?

Also, Balmer gives me nightmares of Jonathan Sullivan.

If we can't get either GD or SE, I have no probs at all making several trades back to pick up extra picks--let's just make them count and not waste them like da Fclowns, ya know?

You've gotta ask yourself why Shockey and Lito are on the market.

Shockey is poison. Period. We should avoid that big potato head at all costs.

Lito is an OK corner within a solid Philly defense, but would probably take a year or 2 to settle into our system. He could possibly help us, but he isn't getting any younger. Therefore I don't see him as having a lot of value.

First of all Mayo will be gone before the 31st pick. He is rising up draft boards and if Rivers hadn't had a spectacular Pro-Day, would be the #1 LB on most people's boards.

Second Kentwan Bahlmer will be WAY gone before the 31st pick much less the 40th pick.

Third, I'm not sure if we want Shockey in our locker room. He's got a big mouth and I don't think that he and Payton would get along...

i didn't realize Mayo and Bahlmer had risen so much...

....Shockey, i figured with Vilma and Brees, we would have enough vocal leadership to keep him in check... where Shockey would hopefully know better than to question the guy, which would be different than new york, where Eli was questioned by everyone(at least everyone outside the locker room). but then again, i heard reg was a bit of a Prima donna last year, and two may be too many... but if Morgan and Vilma came in as model personnel, that would also help Shockey behave, seeing how they are fellow "U" grads, and they are known for sticking together.

...It was my understanding that lito was good at man to man coverage... which is what we run... and i would assume it has a short learning curve.

so i figured getting the LB that i liked(i had Mayo right behind Rivers), and figured Bahlmer looked as good as any DT after the first two... then adding a corner and TE, that would be a heck-uva first two rounds.

but seriously, i thought Mayo and Bahlmer were mid 2nd rounders.. but i havn't been able to keep up with it all.

I disagree completely on Lito. Philly's defense isn't that far removed from ours and at 27, he's entering the prime 3-4 years of his career. The only concern I have for Lito is his penchant for injuries. Still, dealing from 10 to 19 to get him is worth it, in my opinion. The difference in talent from 10-19 (assuming that SE and GD are gone, which is what I'm going to assume) isn't significant, and the player would cost far less.

Shockey, however, I agree. At 19 I want Mayo, Cherilus, or Merling.

Two things.

A. I would rather use that tenth pick on a rookie instead of Shepherd. There are some good fits at the #10 spot with corners, so we should just take one there(I know this isn't a popular thought process.). We have to teach somebody to play in our system so it might as well be a rookie that you can have around for a while.

B. I don't think Balmer or Mayo make it out of the first round.

Shepperd is a very good corner but we have to remember that he played for a blitz happy defense. This means that he could, and did, play man coverage very well but it also means that he didn't have to cover for long. I would imagine that a lot of his interceptions were because of a QB throwing bad balls under duress. I would guess that he would not be as effective while trying to cover his man for five seconds as McKenzie does.
