My Projected Top Four (1 Viewer)

Slipping up in one game shouldn't disqualify Ohio State. Penn State is a very good team, but Penn got lucky to beat Wisconsin with some crazy bombs, got trounced by Michigan, and lost to Pittsburgh. If Wisconsin had played slightly smarter prevent style defense, Penn would've lost handily. Ohio State only has one 3 point loss to Penn State, and has looked solid all season except for the Michigan State 1 point win. No way should a team with one minor 3 point loss blemish to a very good team be taken out of the playoffs in favor of a team with 2 huge blemishes such as the trouncing by Michigan and a loss to a very average Pittsburg team. Penn may actually be playing better than Ohio State at the end of the season, but those were bad losses. Penn had to trounce Wisconsin with solid and replicatable plays to get in, but they just won with hail mary type plays. Penn's style of play is boom or bust, but against the best teams, they would go bust. Ohio State has a much better chance of beating the elite teams with their style of play, so I think they deserve to be in over Penn State.

We need a 6 or 8 team playoff so the type of mental gymnastics necessary here don't have to happen. Let the committee pick the at large teams and seed. The auto bids should be teams that win their conferences. Otherwise there is no reason to have conferences.

I could support this if divisions were eliminated within conferences, such that only the 2 best teams in a conference would play for the conference championship, otherwise you'll have the occasional lucky conference winner getting into the playoffs that is no better than the 10th team in the nation. The playoffs should only represent the top teams, not a team that got lucky bounces in one game. Had Clemson lost to Virginia Tech, and they almost did, or Washington lost to Colorado, neither VT nor Colorado deserved to get in to the top 4. Even if we went with top 8, VT still wouldn't deserve to get in even with a victory against Clemson. Now if Clemson had been playing against Louisville, I would've been okay with Louisville getting into the top 8 playoff.

2006 as you remember Michigan and Florida were both 11-1, Michigan's loss coming to #1 Ohio State at Ohio State, Florida lost to #11 Auburn at Auburn. There was much debate as to should Michigan get a second crack at OSU (as they had only lost by 3 in Columbus), or if Florida should get in as they lost to Auburn by 10. Urban was very vocal about having to win your conference to get in.

Well, yeah it should. That's why Penn State was named Big 10 champion. They don't name conference championship based on the "eye ball test" or schedule. That other stuff only comes into play AFTER things like "head to head" are eliminated.

tOSU was given a spot in the CFP because they draw a bigger crowd and more viewers, plain and simple. The argument made for tOSU over PSU would have kept Washington out of the CFP is applied equally.
