Like most Saints' fans, I already believe we've got the best new coach (...and one of the best overall).

But knowing how much he wants the players to STOP BEATING THEMSELVES (pre-snap penalties, turnovers, etc.), I listened to the press conference.

If you listen to his TONE, you can pick up the fact that he knew that the players gave it 100%, and left it all on the field.

If you lose because you didn't give it your all, then the coach should be flaming mad. But when you know your guys played their hearts out for the full 60 minutes, you learn from your mistakes, make corrections, then get ready for the next week.

After the effort the team put yesterday, a tongue-lashing, finger-pointing press conference would have been poison. Payton knows what remedy to apply (and what NOT to apply) ...and how to apply it. He's a great head coach. (link): http://wwl.com/Article.asp?id=113214

His press conferences are a breath of fresh air in the NFL. He's very candid and informative, doesn't use coach speak, and actually treats the fans as people capable of rational thought.

That is one thing about this team compared to teams of the past. When we lose we do not embarrass ourselves. We are always in the game.

Great press conference. We have a great coach and our team will clean it up and get better as the season continues.
