Very much yes. He was innovative and industry savvy. He would have been worthy of admiration if not for his major flaws. Too bad he was a major A-hole and domestic abuser. Fork him.
I just can't think of one redeeming value about him.

Ike Turner had an Unsung episode about him a few years back

If it’s to be believed he was making real strides in turning his life around his reputation

Then the Angela Bassett movie came out and it all came crashing back down

Who? Me? I "grew up" with her. All those variety shows and stuff she was on early in her career were what I watched in the '70s. So I was familiar with that. Became familiar with what her and Ike's marriage was really like as everyone did from the book/movie. But I hadn't really heard any interviews she's done so, yeah, I learned stuff about her that was new to me.
 
I just learned today her 62-year-old son died in December. I am just preparing myself.
