This list is based on who I believe might be available when we pick. I know the list might be a bit unpopular but it is based on how I see things today. I know that might not be enough to stave off neg-repping; yet, I also think as scouts begin to go through evaluations, and that information is made available to arm-chair QBs, some unknown guys will rise while others will fall. Overall, I think the draft is strongest on the interior defensive line and the offensive line class is deeper than I suspected.

1. Dion Jordan/Sheldon Richardson
2. Eric Fisher
3. Dee Milliner
4. Barkevious Mingo
5. Alec Ogletree
6. Jarvis Jones
7. Kenny Vacarro
8. Sharrif Floyd
9. Jonathan Hankins
10. Datone Jones
11. Lane Johnson
12. Kevin Minter
13. Matt Elam
14. Cordarrelle Patterson
15. Desmond Trufant/Jonathan Banks

One player I am leery of: DaMontre Moore

I did not rank Chance Warmack who is my second best player in this draft simply because we do not have any need a guard. Same for Jonathan Cooper.

Note: Richardson might grade slightly ahead of Jordan for me, but Jordan's potential as a pass-rusher and difference maker as well as the the current makeup of our roster makes this a toss up for me.

Cant argue with your list. Im not as high on Dee Milner as most. I'd probably have Minter a tad higher. Good list overall :9:

A good list.

But I dont get this...

How do you know we dont have a need for Guard? Doesnt it take 2 years for the average draft pick to mature. How do you know we wont need a guard in 2 years? I never get this misunderstanding people have about "needs" when they feel somebody is that good.

If Chance is that good he might not even be there...but if he is that much better than the other options, I would at least consider taking him or trade down at the very least.

If the talent level is not close, I just dont see how you can make a pick if you dont take the best player. Either take the best player or move down.

Sure "need" and "fit" can weigh into who you think is best or be the decider when they are close,. I just dont see smart people picking just on "need", when you are trying to pick a player that will be with your organization for multiple years.

That being said I like Dee Milliner.

I agree with this wholeheartedly.

Warmack will help us have one of the best offenses in the league. Oh wait, we already do. Dont get me wrong, I hear what you are saying. You dont pass on great talent. And guard is a premium position for us. But Sean Payton and our scouting staff has a great eye for linemen. Look at Evans and Nicks, both late rounders, Bushrod late rounder, Brian DLP, UDFA. With our current cap problems and terrible defense, we need to get better there, period. The only offensive position at wouldnt be mad about taking is tackle, but even then it still doesnt address our defensive needs.

#1. Jarvus Jones (best player in the draft...don't overthink this one. Unless his head falls off his neck before the draft)
#2. Damontre Moore (I think that he is going to slip in the draft but has potential at either WOLB or SOLB)
#3. Dion Jordan (likely would compete w/ Galette at WOLB but has some potential at SOLB)
#4. Eric Fisher (even if the Saints re-sign Bushrod, which I hope they do...Fisher would play RT)
#5. Barkevious Mingo (Would play WOLB for the Saints...too small for SOLB)
#6. Kenny Vaccaro (FS is a HUGE need for the Saints...would allow Harper to play more in the box)
#7. Sharrif Floyd (I think that he is a better fit at LDE/5-tech than Richardson. First in foremost you have to be able to anchor against the run for that position...and that he can do.)
#8. Sheldon Richardson (I honestly think that he is better fit for UT in 4-3 or RDE in 3-4...but we have Jordan to man that position.)
#9. Johnathon Hankins (Bunkley will be starting this season...so Hankins would primarily be a pick for the future.)
#10. Dee Millner (the Saints aren't lacking of talent at CB...just good coaching. Greer will be improved now that healthy and back in a man scheme. Robinson is a question mark but hope that he can finally get good coaching to overcome his mental errors. Jenkins will be much better back at CB. White, like Robinson has potential but needs to be coached up. I like Millner but CB just isn't as significant a need as most of the other positions on the defense.)

I really like the list but a huge name you are leaving off is Ezekiel Ansah. In my opinion, Moore will be gone when we draft, maybe Jarvis Jones will slide, but I'm sure he'll pick some steam by the time the draft comes along.

Ansah has tremendous speed and power and his improvement has been drastic for a guy who has just started learning how to play football. I would put my number 1 in my chart.

y is so many people so excited over ansah? everything i read about him hes a project. We need help on defense now.can't wait for a couple of years.hes just too raw!

i get why you have jordan high although i dont like him as a prospect at all but i dont even know what you are thinking with richardson, where is he going to play in the new 3-4. to small to play the nose, to short and not even close to the right skillset to play 5 tech.

I'll take a stab:

1. Ansah or Richardson
2. Werner
3. Mingo
4. J. Jones
5. Dion Jordan
6. Matt Elam
7. Johnathan Banks
8. Eric Fisher
9. K. Vaccaro
10. DeAndre Hopkins

How in the world do you figure that?

I think he can play 5-tech and slide in to play 3-tech in passing situations ala Justin Smith (no I am not saying he is the next Justin Smith, but its not out of the realm of possibilities).

Valid point, and I understand your argument. I know that the Saints take the best player available and I subscribe fully to this approach. But I also know that there are certain positions that the Saints will not draft the BPA. QB, for instance, is a position where we would not take a guy with Drew on the team. I doubt we would take the BPA at RB given our logjam there. With Warmack, while you have certainly a highly-regarded prospect, he would be a redundant pick at a position where you have an all-pro and a guy one year removed from the probowl. And Warmack is a true guard so he will not offer you help at tackle or center. If he was there in the second round, sure, you take him. But in the first, I just think it is important to address other needs while still applying the strategy of getting the best player available. In essence, you are getting the BPA at a position of need.

I know Ansah played well in the Senior Bowl game, but I still think he is a project at this point. Will he be ready day 1? If so, he will have taken a lot of coaching up. Will it take three years? It is possible. You never know with these sort of guys. He does resemble Jason Pierre-Paul and yet he is more raw than JPP was at the same stage. I think you have to be careful with him,. Funny thing is, I can see him going as high as #5 to the Lions even though I think he will take some time. Players like Ansah get overdrafted all the time because you see the potential oozing out of him. I am just not sure we can wait as long as it might possibly take for him to become the player people think he can eventually be with "solid coaching." I am also not convinced that his best position in the NFL is in an odd-front. But this is all my opinion.

I disagree. Richardson is 6'4, 295. So he's definitely not too short or small. I do not see him playing NT, but I think he can play the 3-technique in a one-gap scheme. I also think he's capable of playing the 5-technique. In a 2-gap scheme, I would be a bit more worried. In a 1-gap scheme, I think he's an ideal fit and the type of player who can be very disruptive up front.

If we got one of Richardson, Jordan or Fisher at 15 I'd be very happy. The only other guy I've really watched on your list is Lane Johnson and I'd be happy enough with him if we'd lost Bushrod, otherwise it'd be a less attractive option. I've not seen much of Mingo or Jarvis Jones but to me that's an area where (pre-FA at least) we need to add an impact player.

I notice you don't have Ziggy Ansah on your list. Is that because you don't think there's a chance he'll be there at 15? or do you not feel he's worth consideration for us? I think he's an incredibly talented player but I'd be concerned about how fast he would be able to make an impact. I think he'd be closer to making an impact as a 4-3 end than as a 3-4 OLB. Maybe as a pure pass rush specialist. I don't know.

I know Ansah played well in the Senior Bowl game, but I still think he is a project at this point. Will he be ready day 1? If so, he will have taken a lot of coaching up. Will it take three years? Sorry, missed that. I agree with that.

Also, you and BRWD put forward a position on Sheldon Richardson. I agree and think he's not a totally different player (size, athleticism, motor, etc) from someone like Cam Jordan who everybody is saying is a natural at 5tech in our new scheme. I think Richardson played more at 3tech in college than Jordan (who played more 5 tech and 4-3 DE). He did play a little over the tackle though and looks a really similar player to me in a lot of ways. And I always liked Cam Jordan a great deal.

Fair enough after all its your list.

But if you were to humor me (lets say hypothetically that Grubbs was in the last year of his contract and had a questionable injury)....
1) Do you think Warmack will be there because he is a Guard?
2) Would he really be number one your that list?
3) How far down is the next guy a lot or a little?
4) Do you think comparing him to Will Shields (cbssports.com) is a massive exaggeration?
5) Dont you think his name is cool? ;)
