My VERY early opinion on the starting defensive lineup (1 Viewer)

im not saying Fujita is an all pro, but atleast he has put together VERY good years in the NFL before... you are sky high if you disagree...the proof is in the pudding my friend.

Shanle has done absolutely nuthing for the Saints...

He had one great year with the Chiefs 6 years ago. Other then that his career has been average (and I'm not holding his horrible stop in Dallas against him).

The past three years he and Shanle have boasted very similiar production. Thats all I care about, not what he did half a decade ago in KC.

i re-looked at Shanle's 2006 year and he had better "stats" then I thought...still he's a pile..

i would say he has had one great year in 03 with the chiefs

two solid years with NO in 06 and 07

and one good year with the saints in 08..

Shanle played better than Fujita in 08 season. He really overachieved for us last year, but I believe that's as good as he'll ever be. Both are unspectacular but very solid depth who can step in and play at any point if need be.

If this was Gibbs, I would say I would expect them both to start in '09 as well, even with the return of Morgan, development of Dunbar, possible draft picks, etc. With G. Williams though, who knows?

Shanle can't hold Fujita's jock strap... I have NEVER seen Shanle make a play before... and sometimes it looks like he is avoiding contact... he's terrible~

Check the stats. Several sacks this past season and second only to Vilma in tackles. he is not an all pro but steady.

Allright, the Shanle vs Fujita debate continues....but if Moragan comes in and wins that starting job (and that is a HUGE if) at SLB (I believe that is where he played before), then do we move Fujita to WLB or leave in Shanle?

Yeah, we just paid our QB of the defense 34 million dollars only to move him to a different position so a rookie can take his spot.

from what i understand from the Morgan WWL interview, the OLB positions are interchangeable.
and Fujita>Shanle.
I know Vilma likes him, but i just don't see it.
Maybe someone could give me some concrete evidence on why Shanle is better.
Fujita had a game-ending INT in week 1 in the red zone. I can't think of 1 single game-changing play that Shanle has ever made.
I'm not trying to ruffle any feathers, just trying to understand why people like Shanle/ dislike Fujita.

He played MLB in Carolina and was brought inlast season to compete with Shanle for the WLB position.

Noone dislikes Fujita and overall, if for nothing more then his physical build, I think Fujita is slightly better and should be able to do some things blitzing this year.

It just gets old to see Shanle called trash while Fujita is called great when they are basically the same player at this point. Shanle reminds me of Stinchcomb in the way fans approach him.

The problem with both Fujita and Shanle is that they didn't make many plays at, near or behind the line of scrimmage. They are far too tepid in their play. Maybe this has to do with Gary Gibbs but you just didn't see these guys attacking the gaps and running lanes to make plays. When they blitzed they were blocked too often and the QB just ate up the coverage. They don't hit hard and they don't change direction very well. I think the only reason that they're starting is because the coaching staff likes them personally. (Fujita is a pretty cool guy. I caught beads from him in 2007) I don't understand why the coaching staff does not believe we need an upgrade at OLB, besides Morgan.
