The Los Angeles Lakers intend to waive DeMarcus Cousins to clear a roster spot for Markieff Morris, if he clears waivers on Sunday, sources told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski and Ramona Shelburne.

Morris negotiated a buyout with the Detroit Pistons on Friday, leaving $4.3 million (the remainder of this season and his 2020-21 salary) on the table, according to ESPN's Bobby Marks.

Cousins, a popular player in the Lakers locker room, has missed the entire season with a torn ACL in his left knee. Earlier this season, the Lakers successfully applied for a disabled player exemption for Cousins, because the injury was expected to keep him out the entire season.

Cousins is done. Best he can hope for is a bench player after this

We dodged a major bullet when he decided not to sign with us after his injury. Thank God for unanswered prayers.

I think you are right but the Warriors and Lakers ruined Boogie. After watching the Pels bring along Zion, I am convinced the Warriors brought Boogie back way too soon. He suffered an Achilles tear only 15 months prior to going back in for extended minutes with the Warriors. Then the Lakers picked him up and tried to get him going as if nothing happened.

Boogie is almost 300 pounds. After an injury like that he should have been brought along the way the Pels brought along Zion, slowly retraining him and building up his minutes. Even after all this time the Pels are still careful with Zion's minutes, and Zion is 10 years younger and had a much less serious injury.

Boogie could still be an effective player yet, but he has to have a team willing to slowly move him in. The Lakers expected him to start for them, and that was too much. His injury is on them. Injuries during preseason and training are often the fault of the team. If they had been more patient, he'd still be healthy now and giving the Lakers 20 min a game off the bench.
