Could it be the ongoing federal investigations, you think? Get out while the getting's good and get paid big $$$ rather than be suspended for his last year? He may have been planning to come out anyway, but the suspicious air around him makes it look all the more self-serving now.

Obviously, if he wants to declare, he can't wait around for who knows how long to be cleared if the investigation turns up dry, but it does look bad and there's no way around that. Radio people in Houston were wondering just how much the investigation and the former incident with the laptop will hurt his draft stock. It is a fair question. The sports writers in the DFW area are advocating the Cowboys to select Newton. Nothing would make me happier than watching that franchise being set back further!!!
