Could we use/afford Sammy Watkins? I read that they might have to cut him.

I probably saw the same article, it was midseason as I recall, but could be wrong. He's a relatively easy cut.

My favourite part was the quote where he said something like, 'If I have to go somewhere else to create a SB team, I will'. Yeah, Sammy, because it was all your doing! ?

They have quite a few contracts where they can convert salary to signing bonus or extend to create space. I doubt they will cut Watkins and even If they did I doubt Loomis could get him signed.

As far as Mahomes, He will get hit with the 5th year option sometime in April if they can't agree to a long term deal. After that they can still use the Franchise tag and as such lock him up through 2022 before a long term deal has to be done.

There is zero chance they get rid of Hardman on a rookie contract. Well maybe not zero...but highly unlikely. But yes, he is better than Watkins, who is highly overrated and will probably make more than what he's worth.

Sammy Watkins is an underachiever with tons of talent that haven't been able to make himself indispensable for the 3 teams he has play for.

To me, he is one of the most expensive players, dollar per dollar, considering salary vs productivity.

And besides what you may think about him, his salary for the year is 13,750 million. But more important, his cap hit for the chiefs is 21 million, 7 in dead money. He will have to accept a significant pay cut in order for the chiefs to trade him.

Nobody in the league will take that salary, based in his production. And more important, I am not sure that the Chiefs will be able to absorb that cap hit.

I can see Watkins playing this year for Kansas City, and becoming an unrestricted free agent next year.
