'Three well-connected NFL sources in Hawaii for Sunday's Pro Bowl each said, independent of the other, that there is mounting evidence to think Long will be the No. 1 overall pick in April's draft.

The Dolphins are scheduled to pick in the top slot, and the widespread consensus is that Miami football operations chief Bill Parcells believes there is less risk with Long than any other potential No. 1 overall pick.'

I hope they take Chris Long and that the Rams take Jake Long and then let the Ellis and Dorsey fall a little further.

Yeah I agree. In the majority of recent mocks I've seen, it's either Dorsey, C Long or Ryan.
I can't see Ryan being that good. I also think that with not much great opposition Ryan will be big risk. With him the Dolphins are really hoisting the hopes of a franchise on his shoulders.
Then it's Dorsey or Long. I believe they can do no wrong with either. Ellis deserves to be in there too. Each fits Miami's system, has great experience, has already proved themselves, and will nearly be guarenteed success at the top level.

it's the most sure-fire pick for sure...dorsey stays hurt and ryan wasnt even the best QB in college football, you could debate if he's even the best in this draft!!

i think they will go with M. Ryan

Supposedly the Fins' are high on Flacco out of Delaware for QB (read it on rotoworld). They say he fits the Parcells mold (tall, big arm, east coaster etc). I wouldn't be surprised if they took Long at #1 and then their 2nd round pick would be Flacco.

If that's the case the Bear's might trade up.
Every Bears fan I have heard on another forum I post on thinks Flacco is their guy.
Apparantly they have held numerous private meetings and practices with him, and have been scouting him at Delaware for 2 years.

Dorsey stays hurt? Please explain.

Alex Smith wasn't the best QB in the country back in '05, but he was still the # 1 overall pick.

The Dolphins are in a similar situation IMO to those 9ers... Looking back, man, that '05 1st round was pretty LOUSY... especially the top 10.

Round one
Pick # NFL Team Player Position College
1 San Francisco 49ers Alex Smith Quarterback Utah
2 Miami Dolphins Ronnie Brown Running back Auburn
3 Cleveland Browns Braylon Edwards Wide receiver Michigan
4 Chicago Bears Cedric Benson Running back Texas
5 Tampa Bay Buccaneers Carnell "Cadillac" Williams Running back Auburn
6 Tennessee Titans Adam "Pacman" Jones Cornerback West Virginia
7 Minnesota Vikings (from Oakland) Troy Williamson Wide receiver South Carolina
8 Arizona Cardinals Antrel Rolle Cornerback Miami (FL)
9 Washington Redskins Carlos Rogers Cornerback Auburn
10 Detroit Lions Mike Williams Wide receiver Southern California (USC)

Braylon Edwards is the only top 10 pick from that year that looks like he might actually be a good NFL player. Ronnie Brown has battled inconsistency and injury.

if anybody watches "First Take" on ESPN2 there was a segment for a few of the executives in the Dolphins organization asking in a poll, who they would pick number one... i tried to wait for it but i had to go to work but in the previews Glen Dorsey was being shown.. did anybody catch it?

Looking at that first round as a whole... It seems that there weren't nearly the amount of "hits" that you would expect from a first round, now three years later. There are several decent players there, but not as many stars as you would expect.

Whoever they decide, I have a feeling we'll know several weeks before the draft. I didn't understand Oakland being so mysterious last year and not negotiating before the draft. I guess they were hoping that someone would trade up but they really screwed up by not.

I would be able to say that currently, the best player out of those 32, was probably chosen by the New Orleans Saints.
How many drafts can we look back on and say that?
You could also make a big case for Merriman, or Ware.

8 of the top 10 picks could really be considered "busts" if you look at it.

Alex Smith is terrible, Cedric Benson stinks, Pac-Man is a good player but a turd, Troy Williamson stinks, Mike Williams STINKS, Antrel Rolle and Carlos Rogers have not met expectations... Cadillac had one good year, but I'm not too impressed.

As a VT guy that watched Long closely (with Envy), he absolutely deserves it. Great kid, a monster on the field, and an outstanding leader.

The Fins would be smart to take him and lucky to have him.
