Yes or no?
Let's put aside the fact that he played for the Bucs. Keep in mind that he played the fullback position, and the last fullback to get in was Csonka who stopped playing in 1979. In this day and age of high flying offenses and trick plays, the pound it out position of fullback has been relegated to just being a blocker. I think you have to take the position he played into account.
These are the FB's listed in the HOF and their stats, along with Alstott:
Bronko Nagurski - 1930-1937, 1943
4031 yards All NFL 5 years (akin to Pro Bowl), 9 seasons
Clarke Hinkle - 1932-1941
3,860 yards
Ernie Nevers 1926-1927, 1929-1931
Stats unavailable
Larry Csonka 1968-1979
8,081 yards, 68 TDs, 106 receptions
Joe Perry 1948-1960, 1963
9,723 yards, 260 receptions, 3 pro bowls, 2,800 yards receiving
Jim Taylor 1958-1966
8,597 yards, 225 receptions, 2,000 receiving yards
Mike Alstott
5,088 yards, 58 TDs, 305 receptions, 6 pro bowls, 2,284 yards receiving
3.7 yards per carry average for his career
What stands out to me is his ypc. For a Fullback, 3.7 yards per carry is pretty good for a 12 year career. My vote is obviously yes, after 28 years it is time to put in another fullback.
