Auburn's Groves has heart surgery, but still projected to go in the first round of NFL draft - The Gold Mine - al.com

Auburn defensive end Quentin Groves underwent heart surgery on March 27 to treat his Wolff-Parkinson-White (WPW) syndrome, an abnormality in the heart's electrical system that can cause rapid heart beats. The condition was identified and the problem alleviated, according to the letter that every NFL team received, according to NFL Network.
The report said Groves is still projected as a first-round pick and has been visiting teams. A stop this week included Miami. He left Auburn with a career 26 sacks, tied for tops in school history with Gerald Robinson.

Meh, he's projected to be a 3-4 guy anyway. :)

Nah, but I wish him good health.

It was a VERY minor surgery that cured the problem. This can be verified. The thing he had surgery for was non life threatening and unobtrusive as for as surgery goes. A very simple procedure, in and out through a vein, doesn't take very long.

He's not what we're after, but I wish him well.

The heart problem may scare a lot of teams off, I know it would me, but also:

"The 2006 off-season was one that Groves would just as soon forget. He was placed on probation after he was in a car accident with no auto insurance and a suspended license. He was also arrested after police responded to a domestic dispute call.

Groves, who is married and has already graduated, opted to return for his senior season after being projected as a likely middle-round pick in the NFL Draft. The chance to move up in the draft and land a big contract had plenty to do with the decision. There were other motivations, too. "It was a money thing, and I wanted to win a championship with my teammates," Groves said. "I felt like if I came back here, we had a good chance to go to Atlanta and compete for an SEC title."

Groves was having a banner 2007 campaign until he suffered dislocated toes on his right foot in the season's fifth game vs. Florida. The injury cost him two games of action and when he returned, he was used mostly in a reserve role ."

I think the statement "It was a money thing, and I wanted to win a championship with my teammates," is not what most teams want to hear.

This was not the whole article, but I picked items that make me doubtful.

Good luck to him, but I think he can kiss the first round goodbye.

He will be the bargain of the draft pending health and being drafted by a 3-4 team to play rush OLB. He will be somewhere between Demarcus Ware and Shawne Merriman.

Well he is from Mississippi (Greenville) and I have watched him play a number of times, as most of us probably have. If he is there at 40, it would really be tempting for me to take him. He is a terror coming off the edge.

Yeah Tide Groves is a pretty good player, I do think that Antonio Coleman will in time be better then Groves was for Tubs crew. Thats the thing too. I thought that the 2004-06 Auburn teams were the best in 20 years that we had seen, but the best is probably yet to come. We have a excellent LB corps in Blackmon, good DE's with Marks and Coleman, and a much improved Offense with Kodi Burns at QB. Auburn was suffering with Cox at the helm, he was too slow and too timid to be a good passer, Burns is the antithesis of that. He makes plays and will make our offense a lot better.

But back to Groves, he will be a good NFL player. I could see Pittsburgh or maybe possibly New England taking him in the late 1st round
