"In boxing you know where the hits are coming from – it is the guy stood in front of you," Edwards said. "In boxing you might break your hand or break your nose and if you get knocked out you can get a concussion. But also, the referee is right there and you are more protected. In football, you never know. The game moves at such a pace that you might never see it coming. You can get hit when you are completely defenseless."

Y! SPORTS

He may be setting the stage to go for big bucks like other players. I wonder if SuperChuck or other legal beagles has any thoughts on this.

Coming from someone that has done both sports. I almost always came out of a football game feeling a lot less ******** than a match.

Not really sure why comments from an ex-player would be particularly meaningful in the concussion litigation.

The boxing he does is extremely safe

If you box like that , I can see where you wouldn't get hit, he needs a better actor to do the "fall" for him

LOL, no. There aren't concussion "specialists" that will talk to you for a standing 8-count. You're talking to the referee, and if you're fighting and want to continue, you'll try your *** off to shake those cobwebs off and say anything to convince him to let you keep fighting.

Standing 8-count -> adrenaline dump -> concussion

Now a case can be made that football is safer than MMA, where the referee will jump in immediately in the event of a knockout and NOT let you continue under any circumstances, but still even that is a stretch.

dude fights guys that go down after a phantom punch! What does he know, he pretends to be a boxer just, like he pretended to be a football player.

Playing football myself, as well as training in standup (boxing and muay thai) and mma, I totally agree. In regards to boxing, I think "head injury" wise, its about even. But blown knees, leg injuries, etc, are nowhere near the issue that it is in football. Believe it or not, mma is safer than both football and boxing. But hey, its sports. Crazy things happen in there, no matter how prepared the competitor is.

i think we need a study. what has more force? a standing punch to the head, or a full sprint helmet to helmet collision.

Boxing has something like 300 deaths since the 40's. My parents were ecstatic when I chose college ball over trying to become the next Mike Tyson haha.
