N/S Has anyone watched the documentary [about Aaron Hernandez?] (1 Viewer)

Yea it really is all over the place. With the homosexuality and all that. What’s that got to do with anything?? Who cares who this dude was screwing
I think they were partly trying to use it as if that's why he was so angry on the inside and trying his hardest to be all gangsta

Yea I been binging the show for the last few hours and just realized that could’ve been what they were saying. When I made the comment I was only 2 or 3 episodes in

True that it doesn't matter, but it may have been a potential motive. That was one of the working theories, anyway; essentially, the victim may have walked in on Hernandez and another man (or a situation similar to that), and that Hernandez killed him because he maybe didn't want the Patriots, the public, and his friends and family finding out. If you listen to his calls in prison, he's complaining about "flamboyant" gay man, but uses another word to describe them. He clearly has self-hatred issues, along with a number of other issues.

I didnt even knw about the random reporter outting him on some radio show just scummy

They just replayed a doc done in 2018 on Oxygen. They interviewed Brandon Spikes and his wife, Aaron's fiance Shayanna Jenkins who was also his HS girlfriend (the one who was videod removing the trash bag from the house), his college girlfriend Alyssa Anderson, former defense attorneys Jose Baez and George Leontire (who, as a gay man himself, has said that Aaron was gay and fought vehemently against any testimony being used in court that Aaron was gay), the sheriff from Bristol County where Aaron was incarcerated during his trial, numerous journalists who covered various of the stories, etc.

I haven't seen the Netflix one but I'm not sure how much else it could have included (I'm guessing it's a little more focused on the angle of Aaron being gay and doesn't seem to have any new interviews but does use conversations recorded while he was in prison). Baez says that Aaron was basically railroaded. But I was most struck by his fiance talking about feeling let down by her sister Shaneah's testimony that she "took the side of the prosecution". Her sister whose boyfriend was Odin Lloyd, the man who was murdered. Aaron's fiance couldn't believe her sister didn't support Aaron, as someone both had known since high school, over her own boyfriend. Again, the one who was murdered allegedly by Aaron. Well, gee, sorry, sister.

I dunno, even knowing more now, I don't feel I have any particular insight into Aaron's head. He kept some pretty strange hours with some pretty rough people and was, at the very least, with the wrong people at the wrong time in the wrong place. At what point do you go, Oh, having CTE means that if you commit a crime, you shouldn't be held responsible. It might be a fact, but I don't think it's an explanation. I don't think Aaron seems evil, but he does seem like a shell of a man who happened to reside in a hella talented football player.
Baez also claimed Casey Anthony was innocent. ? Not exactly a reliable source.

Netflix show was good because the story is compelling, but it was not particularly well made. Enjoyed it nonetheless.

Honestly that whole CTE thing scares the hell outta me. Makes me worry about all our guys.

And watching this whole Antonio Brown thing happening makes me wonder what he’s gonna do. It’s obvious that he’s suffering from it
Honestly, I think the NFL will put a limit on how many seasons you can play.

Idk. Doesn’t seem like it would make them much money. So they won’t care.

In fact, right now Twitter is saying that, by the Super Bowl, a 17 game season with extended playoffs will be put in place. They clearly could give a crap less about player health

It’s that or retiring at around 30-32 will be normal.
I doubt you’ll see many with 10+ seasons as more information about CTE comes out.

I don’t think the length of career really matters though. Hernandez played what? 2-3 season? And he had the worst CTE they’d ever seen in someone that age. Now I’m thinking about Luke Kuechly and his 11 reported concussions. 28 years old and his brains are likely scrambled. It’s sad. And also the reason idk if I’ll let my kid play football

Limit to what? Hernandez joined the league aged 20, played 3 seasons and had some of the worst brain damage seen, especially for his age.
Unless he smashed his head against his cell walls daily for 4 years, there doesn’t seem to be a lot you can do to stop CTE.
