N/S Josh Gordon stepping away from football. (1 Viewer)

For the record, I have never participated in FFL, I don't like the browns, and I've on seen him play a couple of times. But I do know he was given MULTIPLE chances to get his act together and he went back to smoking weed, that is something you choose to do. I have never smoked weed in my life and i wake up every morning and I choose not to do it and definitely if I was a football player making millions I think I could wait until i was retired to get blazed everyday in a weed legal state and nobody would care. SIMPLE, its not Rocket Science just stop. But Kudos for him for getting help.

Ill caution you here in that you tagged "millionaire" onto the phrase. Being rich doesnt necessarily make your problems or your stress go away.

Even while under suspension he is subject to drug testing. Since he is in stage 3 of the Substance Abuse Policy he can be tested up to 10 times per month for the rest of his NFL career. He would have to file retirement papers with the league to get out of testing.

They can't test him when he's in rehab.

My guess is that he has had a recent test that he knows he will fail. Besides that I don't believe there is anything in the Substance Abuse Policy that says they can't require a test while in Re-hab. Your welcome to prove me wrong though if you can find a clause in it that states otherwise.

Regardless of how I feel about marijuana, the NFL is a private entity and can enforce whatever rules they wish, so long as those rules are within the law. It's like walking into someone's home. Regardless of what rights we are entitled to in free society, when you walk into someone's house they have a right to kick you out if you do something or act in a way that they don't see fit. That's what he meant by "there's nothing more to say."

It doesn't mean that the rule isn't stupid and people who fund the NFL (i.e. US) have a right to complain about their stupid rules.

Their stupid rules are messing up my fantasy team.

If the NFL has a rule against it there is nothing more to say? lol, ok. I suppose you've never done any mind altering things dan?

The NFL can make dumb rules and people who realize that they've made dumb rules can call the rules dumb. There's lots and lots to say about it all.

Actually I haven't. I don't drink and have never done an illegal drug in my life. I could care less if someone smokes pot in their own house. Just don't push it on me. Also most people would quit in a heartbeat if it meant millions.

I'll take millionaire stress any day of the week, I survived boot camp, I'm married with a kid (marriage is stressful), and I sometimes on a daily basis have someone's life in my hands that I gotta save or they die. "Millionaire" stress would be a piece of cake.

Make it happen Loomis, trade away our 1st round pick for Gordon!

Sincerely,
The majority opinion of SR for the past 3 years

I truly wish him the best. He's obviously been struggling for years with addiction and emotional issues the magnitude of which we will probably never be privy to. I hope he can find the help he needs.

Awwww, poor baby, it must be so stressful to be a pot smoking millionaire, that got 2 years off football to get your act together and still hasn't. I would kill to have this guys skills and be a dominant player in the greatest sport in the US, and he is sitting there wasting his GOD given talent, sorry, I don't feel sorry for you.

I was talking with someone earlier who made this same argument and I always hate when people make it

"You are talented, successful, rich, and famous (if a woman, attractive).

Therefore, you are immune to addiction, depression, self doubt, and any other issues that plague common folk"

As someone who has seen what emotional issues and addiction can do, it is very sad to see what he is going through. If he is truly at a point where he is going to face his demons, then I wish the best for him. The fact it has been 2 years shows that yes, the young man does have an issue. Hopefully he is at a point to deal with it and conquer it.
