Rules is Rules, even silly ones.

If they don't fine them, next we will have players wearing black lives matter shoes, and i doubt that will fly.

Unfortunately, rules are rules. You have to give the NFL some kind of credit here. They don't make exceptions when it comes to uniform violations. There has to be a line drawn somewhere otherwise people WILL abuse the system.

Rules are rules. But, if I were a player, I'd wear the cleats and pay the fine. Honoring those who lost their lives is worth losing a couple thousand bucks over.

And the police Unions step up.

Police unions offer to pay fine if NFL disciplines player for 9/11 cleats | ProFootballTalk

For the record, Police Departments hate the NFL as much (or more) than most of us for how the NFL is handling the BLM movement.
And a lot of police hated the Civil Rights Movement as much as some hate how the NFL is handling the Black Lives Matter movement. It's possible to disagree without hate.

Sadly though, there never seems to be a shortage of hate.
