N/S Off Season Check-In (1 Viewer)

Yo What's up HART.

Got some questions for you regarding UGA.

Todd Grantham - Potential Saints DC what you got on him? Pro's and Con's.

Bacarri Rambo - How do you see his transition to the NFL going in his rookie year?

Jarvis Jones - Many have him sliding to the middle of the draft due to his spinal stenosis. Opinion?

hey Oui...how ya been? I never know when the right time to come here during the season is. I'm a Falcons fan, and even though I don't come here thumping my chest over our Success (regular season of course :angryrazz:) I don't want to be labeled a troll and all that. So I figured I could at least come here during the off-season to discuss happenings with our teams and what not.

Good strategy... You're much more likely to get a warmer reception here after your team inevitably fails as they do every year

I certaintly hope we do. I think Turner has all but run his course in Atlanta. He was great for the first couple of years but you could really see his decline in his game the past two years. He's slow, he dances around the line of scrimmage instead of hitting the hole, and he cannot catch very well out of the backfield.

As crazy as it sounds, I sort of want the Falcons to at least kick the tires on Ivory if the Saints let him go. He seems like he can handle 15-20 carries a game, and he can also be a pretty good threat in the receiving game. We also have Quizz Rodgers who is good, but he doesn't have the top end speed that you want out of an every down back. He is a change of pace kind of guy with an exceptional ability to make tacklers miss in the open field. Snelling is a similar mold of Turner, but with better hands and slightly faster. Quizz took the backup role from Snelling, so I could see the Falcons cutting ties with him. Turner is also due a good chunk of change, so I wouldn't be surprised to see him be released as well.

Is there a way to make it to where I don't have to view posts from an individual? This guy is an obvious troll... sad to see from a 36 year old.

Grantham - He was our second option in the DC coaching search. We tried to snag Kirby Smart (who wound up going to Bama). As a college coach, it isn't just about what you can do on the field, but it's also about what you can do off the field with recruiting. Grantham's on field statistics I think speak for themself. He took a very underperfoming UGA defense and turned them into a top 5 defense in just one year (2011). That was without all the right players in place, and most of the players had no knowledge of the 3-4 system. This year, he improved on that defense and did a phenomenal job until the SECCG. I don't know how Bama rolled out 350 rushing yards against us. It was absolutely mind boggling that they had that many rushing yards on us, but we were still in the game until the last play.

(pulled from Wiki):
Georgia's defense under Grantham finished the 2011 season ranked 3rd nationally in total defense, 7th in pass defense and 9th in rush defense. They also finished 2nd in the SEC in sacks (34), tackles for loss (94) and turnovers forced (29). In 2012, despite falling to 27th nationally in total defense, the unit was revered as one of the top in the country as the team finished the season 12-2, winning the Eastern Division of the SEC. Grantham's defense sported some of the top talent in the country with playmakers at every position including linebackers Jarvis Jones and Alec Ogletree, defensive linemen John Jenkins and Kwame Geathers, cornerback Sanders Commings, and All-American free safety Bacarri Rambo. Jones was Grantham's star player and was once again a consensus All-American in 2012, finishing the regular season leading the nation in tackles for loss, and 3rd in sacks.

-----------------------------

Rambo is a very interesting guy. He plays the game with absolute heart, but he comes with some off field trouble. I can't remember what week it was, but he lost his son this past season and said that he would continue to play the game of football for his son. Rambo is best described in my opinion as a ball hawker. He has a knack for finding the ball (16 INTs in his college career). Looking at a few draft pages, he is projected to go in the 3rd round, so to me it seems like teams won't be looking for him to make an immediate impact which is probably a good thing.

Being a safety, I never really remember seeing him lined up in man coverage, so hopefully whatever team takes him isn't looking for him to lineup against a slot receiver or something. He is great at playing the run, but tries to hard to jar the ball loose with big hits, so he whiffs on more than a few tackles. If the right coach can bring him in, and teach him how to wrap up, I think any team getting him in the third round an absolute steal. I think he will climb up the boards during his pro day (i'm not sure if he was invited to the NFL Combine).

Jarvis Jones. God I hate to see this man go. I think it's crazy to worry about a neck injury that happened so long ago. He has played at an incredible level since leaving USC and coming to UGA. He's never missed a game that I can recall because of a neck injury. I think Jarvis will go top 5, maybe even top 3. He's just too good to pass him up because of an injury that happened in 2009. He's shown that the injury doesn't bother him.

As far as his playing ability, I think he was the best Linebacker in college football last year, but because Te'o had that huge story and played for Notre Dame, he got all of the attention. Jarvis could easily play OLB for a 4-3 or 3-4 team. His motor never stops. He takes on anyone he sees in front of him and doesn't care who you are, he will try to drive through you to get to the ball. That last part is probably his biggest downfall. He gets so focused on trying to destroy and push through the person in front of him, that he could completely miss the guy with the ball running right past him. He is extremely fast for his size, and plays well in coverage. He didn't get many INT's because Grantham was utilizing him mostly as a pass rushing specialist. Jarvis Jones to me is the next big thing. He has the ability to change a game with ease. I can only hope that the Falcons would consider making a Julio type trade to move up and grab him.

Excellent stuff dude! :9:

Because Jones isn't a huge workout guy it's the general consensus that he's going to under perform at the combine and your gonna have guys like Mingo, Ansah and Jordan who are athletic freaks who will more than likely blow up!

Apparently there was talk amongst scouts at the Senior bowl that several teams drafting in the top 15 have taken Jones off their boards.

So I'm assuming you'd have a heart attack if somehow we managed to draft him? :spit:
