Happy for Pat. It takes guts to bet on yourself. When the life around you (on paper) is already a dream, yet you know the reality of your desires is leading you in another direction, it takes immense fortitude to follow that unction. I have tremendous respect for any person willing to take an unconventional path toward their own fulfillment.


That said, I can’t hate on Wilbon for his perspective at the time. There’s a reason why Pat said he “bet” on himself. It’s because he knew he was taking a risk. Most people likely thought like Wilbon and if we’re being honest, many of us would have the same reaction if a loved one elected to forgo millions to chase a dream.

As I said, I admire Pat’s courage and hope to build up my own audacity to chase my dreams without inhibition. But I can’t give Wilbon grief on this one. However, I’m sure he’ll give me material to drag him over soon enough.
