Superdome Fire - YouTube

Pat and John calling a 49ers/Saints game in 1991 when a grate at the top of the dome for a halftime fireworks display caught fire

Saints ended up winning this game BTW

(some odd things have happened in the Dome when the 49ers visit)

RIP, great memories of him and John calling Saints games back in the late 80s early 90s.

A piece of my formative years has gone to the great commentary booth.

Even to this day I don't imagine ol' John Madden announcing with Al Michaels. Mainly cuz of the video games. But I am deeply saddened, though I'm sure he was proud of a long and full life.

RIP.

First introduced to him as a kid playing Madden. He and John became synonymous with Football for me and I can honestly say I enjoyed listening to him on television. An all-time great announcer and as a poster above said, a part of the greatest booth duo EVER!

Sports legend.

He was a frequent gues of 1310 The Ticket's Norm Hitzges here in Dallas. I managed to get through one time and asked him a question about the Saints (this was 2003 or so...I asked why the Saints kept falling apart late in the season). He happily answered my question in an interview that was otherwise full of Cowboy questions.

Stay hard, Pat.
