N/S Phillips interception (1 Viewer)

in all fairness to the refs, it was a really flukey play that was hard to see in real time..i thought it hit the ground too

Not the point that they missed it. It's them tooting that whistle so quickly all the time and killing a chance for a proper review. The refs need to work with replay and not against it. Swallow the whistle, let the play complete, then go into review. If it's an incomplete pass you can wipe the TD away, no harm. But by blowing the whistle, even though you got the INT right you killed the TD.

With Manningham and Arrington, how did Michigan lose to Appalachian State in 2007? ... or was that the game Arrington was suspended?

^^ didn't we have to waste a challenge because of one of these type of deals

Refs need to chill on the damn whistle. Let it play out, reward the TD, THEN review it when you can nullify the TD. Don't blow the play dead and make it so you can't reverse the call completely upon review.

To be fair to the refs, though..They did that on the Heath Evans incomplete pass. Which forced Sean Payton to use his last challenge on an obvious incomplete pass. So sometimes the quick whistle is needed.

It's the curse of George W. Bush. Dallas is going to lose this game.:9:

No, they need to allow the booth the ability to review any play.

That is what I love about college. The NFL needs to get rid of the refs running over to a booth to look at something. They should have the replay officials at the games make the calls and relay them down to the ref. All plays should be reviewable by Booth. Not just final 2 minutes.

i've read the rational for blowing the whistle is that there is a belief it will prevent injuries by stopping the play if they "think" it is legitimately over. Problem is, they are going to be wrong sometimes. until they have sensors in the ball that change it's color once it hits the turf, it's going to up to the clown with the whistle in his mouth.

not much you can do about it:idunno:

They need to change the rule to allow the ref to award a TD on an overturn if the runner would have scored unchallenged. Obviously, most of the time, they won't be able to award a TD, but on this play and the Calvin Johnson reception last week, the ref could have awarded the TD.
