Good call on that one....
in all fairness to the refs, it was a really flukey play that was hard to see in real time..i thought it hit the ground too
C'mon, it was a lucky catch!!!!
Not the point that they missed it. It's them tooting that whistle so quickly all the time and killing a chance for a proper review. The refs need to work with replay and not against it. Swallow the whistle, let the play complete, then go into review. If it's an incomplete pass you can wipe the TD away, no harm. But by blowing the whistle, even though you got the INT right you killed the TD.
Refs need to chill on the damn whistle. Let it play out, reward the TD, THEN review it when you can nullify the TD. Don't blow the play dead and make it so you can't reverse the call completely upon review.
With Manningham and Arrington, how did Michigan lose to Appalachian State in 2007?

To be fair to the refs, though..They did that on the Heath Evans incomplete pass. Which forced Sean Payton to use his last challenge on an obvious incomplete pass. So sometimes the quick whistle is needed.
i've read the rational for blowing the whistle is that there is a belief it will prevent injuries by stopping the play if they "think" it is legitimately over. Problem is, they are going to be wrong sometimes. until they have sensors in the ball that change it's color once it hits the turf, it's going to up to the clown with the whistle in his mouth. Not the point that they missed it.
