Nay to the naysayers! (1 Viewer)

What preseason does mean is that if some players are content with cruising and are not offended when getting byach slapped around on the field; then the character and attitude we thought they had is just exacerbated and carried into the regular season and you get what has been exhibited for the last few years. Hence, a poorly coached team without a will to win.

Winning and losing in preseason means little or nothing, but how you look and play together does. We have had preseasons where we have lost more than we have won and had good seasons, but we haven't had very many preseasons where we looked sloppy and outmatched and went on to play well in the regular season. There is reason to be concerned with what we have seen so far.

True, but some of that sloppiness comes from 2 places. First, a huge sifting to find the 5 best guys at the 5 OL positions with a new coach. Anyone who thinks you are going to jell immediately is a fool, and doesn't understand how an OL develops. Second, the WR crew. The Houston game the ball was being forced to a guy to see if he was going to be able to step up and be a key player. He wasn't. Couple that with a search for a KR that can simply catch and hold onto the dang ball, and open audition for pass rusher from a crew of very young and talented but woefully short experienced guys is going to lead to issues. You also have a new defensive system and new pieces scattered through. Look at youth at CB, Breaux is our old man out there. There's a lot of talent on the team, it just hasn't come together yet. Fortunately it doesn't have to for a couple weeks

Tomlin is definitely not on the hot seat but they didn't win a playoff game. The nfl and refs gave it to them.

Completely wrong. If you want to insist that the game was handed to them by anyone, it was by the bengals.

Are you implying that flags should not have been thrown on burfict or adam jones?

The SCORE in pre-season is meaningless. The play on the field is meaningful, and the Saints do not look like a good football team. The offensive line, questionable last year, has declined and is downright poor this year. No premier pass rusher is on the roster. The secondary is mostly untested. The LB corps is still full of question marks. The commitment to the running game is not there, nor is the execution.

The sad reality is that this will not be a good year. No, the Saints do not need to trade Brees and fire Payton. They DO need to develop young talent in order to become competitive again. They DO need to address holes (e.g. offensive guard) through free agency. They DO need to hit on their draft picks and not reach for square pegs to jam into round holes (e.g. Stanly Jean-Baptiste).

Time will tell, but I find it very unlikely that the light is suddenly going to come on before week 1. I will still cheer for the Saints, but to quote Han Solo, "I have a bad feeling about this"
