BATON ROUGE -- In a ruling widely expected but nonetheless beneficial to LSU's football program in 2008, defensive end Kirston Pittman was granted a sixth year of eligibility by the NCAA on Monday.

The decision effectively restores one of two seasons Pittman missed in 2005 and 2006 because of injuries, one of them an Achilles tendon rip during preseason workouts.

But if there was little question Pittman deserved another year beyond the five allotted for collegiate athletics, there is no question his return solidifies what might be the best defensive line in the country, even with the departure of Glenn Dorsey, the most decorated defensive player in LSU history.

Just read this from an AP article and came over to see if it was posted.

It's mostly the same as the Baton Rouge article. This is great news for LSU's defensive front. Does this happen often? I can't say I remember having heard the NCAA granting something like this before. I'm sure there have been other instances, but there can't be that many.
