Sorry to butt in but is an expired pp considered a renewal or a new one?
I keep putting it off because we don't have any plans right now but you never know when you might want to flee.

It appears that if the passport was issued within 15 years (so basically within 5 years of expiration) you can use the renewal process instead of a new application.

Our oldest got here a few weeks ago. Think it took about 4 weeks(expedited)!

Based on what I have read, I would wait until after the spring/summer rush (ends in July) and then just go ahead and apply for routine service, it’s cheaper. Will probably take 4 months but then you’ll have it.

Buy a fully refundable ticket to Europe for travel within 14 days. Make urgent service appointment. Get passport and then cancel the ticket

Just don't let Kramer buy the ticket.

Not the exact date, but we got it about a month ago. So probably sent in early to mid April!
