A small defensive back prospect from a small school goes undrafted and signs with the nearest team to make them an offer. They go through fierce competition in training camp for a roster spot and initially get buried on the depth chart. The cornerback makes a couple of cameos before earning more playing time, and in their second season fight for more reps in games that count. They get commended especially for covering the slot.

So far I’ve described two different guys from similar backgrounds: New Orleans Saints cornerback Arthur Maulet, and Denver Broncos three-time All-Pro Chris Harris Jr. I’ll freely admit that it seems like a stretch to compare those two, but hear me out. Harris started out as a undrafted rookie from the Kansas Jayhawks. Maulet is just a year removed from going undrafted out of the Memphis Tigers program.

And if training camp reports are anything to go off of, Maulet is tearing it up just like Harris began to in his second pro season: ...
