With a projected $30 million in available salary cap space, the*New Orleans Saints want to be aggressive in free agency when the league's calendar year kicks off on March 9.

And if there is a position to target, cornerback is likely on the table when considering the Saints come off a season ranked last in the league against the pass, allowing 273.8 yards per game.

Injuries, of course, played a major role.

Delvin Breaux missed six games while recovering from a broken fibula before landing on injured reserve with a shoulder injury; P.J. Williams was placed on injured reserve with a concussion; Damian Swann landed on injured reserve before the start of the regular season; and rookie Ken Crawley suffered a knee injury in the final week of the regular season.

The bad news is that we need a Corner or two in the worst way. The good news is that the draft is deep at the position and there's a good bit of talent available in FA. Just looking at the depth chart I'm starting to come around to EJW's line of thinking in regards to CB. Obviously we need help rushing the passer but our CB group is just ugly. We have some guys but they can't stay healthy. Even if they are healthy we still don't know what we really have. Can we go into next season counting on Breaux, P.J. Williams, Swann, and the rest?

So yeah the position is an issue but we're in a good spot to rectify the situation. We finally have some cap space to work with and there's a good chance the top CB in the draft will still be there at #11.

It might be feasible to draft the best CB available at #11 because you could start the year with Breaux and Williams while working in the rookie. Rookie CBs tend to get picked on a lot and usually get roasted a few times. If the rookie can be worked in gradually and not get thrown to the wolves, that's preferable. And we saw that happen to Crawley last year, but there isn't much doubt that his play improved as the season went on. If we start with a rookie CB with more talent, he could wind up becoming a good player by season's end.

The problem I have with this article is the assumption we play heavy man coverage. Not sure whom the writer is but he'd form a better opinion if he was tied to the right information. That's just not correct. Edit its holder...and he's wrong. We do man pressures at times but we are predominately zone...and thats part of the reason Anthony couldn't crack the lineup because of his inability to play zone from his MLB position.
