David Onyemata vividly recalls the moment he discovered the New Orleans Saints used a fourth-round pick on him during the 2016 NFL Draft.
The former University of Manitoba defensive lineman was enjoying a round of golf on April 30 when his telephone rang. He answered and on the other end of the line was coach Sean Payton, who called to inform Onyemata the Saints were selecting him as the 120th overall pick of the draft.
Excitement quickly overcame him as he listened to Payton, but the 6-4, 300-pound Onyemata tempered his enthusiasm on the call. He was talking to his new boss, after all.
