The New Orleans Saints have hired Michigan State offensive coordinator Dan Roushar to be the team's running backs coach and moved Bret Ingalls to be the team's offensive line coach. The Saints issued a statement announcing the moves after Michigan State issued a news release Saturday.
The offensive line job came open when Aaron Kromer left to become the offensive coordinator of the Chicago Bears, opening the door for Ingalls to move from his duties of coaching the running backs.
Roushar's hiring is the third of the offseason by Saints Coach Sean Payton, who has also brought in defensive coordinator Rob Ryan and assistant special teams coach Stan Kwon. Payton still needs to bring in a secondary coach and an assistant defensive line coach.
Roushar just finished his sixth season with Michigan State, the past two as offensive coordinator. The 51-year-old is a 1984 graduate of Northern Illinois and also coached there. Roushar has also worked at Cincinnati, Butler, Ball State and Rhode Island.
