When asked if any of the undrafted rookies has stood out to him during the last two weeks of full-team practices, New Orleans Saints Coach Payton said there weren't any he would single out by name. But he did mention a handful of young players who have been taking advantage of their increased amount of snaps this offseason, including third-year linebacker Jo-Lonn Dunbar, second-year linebacker Stanley Arnoux and rookie center Matt Tennant, a fifth-round draft pick.

Payton also had high praise for 32-year-old linebacker Troy Evans, who has spent a lot of time with the first-string defense in Scott Fujita's old spot at strong-side linebacker, splitting time with Dunbar while veteran Clint Ingram remains sidelined with a knee injury. Although Evans has started just two games in his eight-year career while serving mostly as a special teams specialist, Payton said he is squarely in the battle for Fujita's old job.

If Troy Evans, who is 32 and has only started 2 games in his career wins the SLB starting job, we have a problem at LB.

This couldn't be more true!

Honestly, I hope Clint comes in and wins the job during TC and Dunbar wins the backup job. We could cut Evans and if worse comes to worse and Ingram or Dunbar goes on IR we could always bring Evans back in, I doubt anyone else gives him a job.

Did anyone notice where Arnoux and Casillas were lining up during mini camps and with which team?

I'd take a top 15 defense. I think we finished 20-22nd last year? Top 15 = deep playoff run.

Ouch. This is exactly what I was hoping not to see when I opened this thread.

more than likely not.. the #1 offense puts up big numbers, big points.. in turn the other team has to throw alot and the defense plays more of a prevent.

therefore the other team gets chunks of yards, and hurts the defensive stats (see saints defense 2009)

Watch Troy Evans become an all pro next year LOL!
