One player's misfortune opened the door for another.

The New Orleans Saints placed tight end Michael Hoomanawanui on season-ending injured reserve with an undisclosed injury as part of the roster moves to reach the initial 53-man roster.

By placing Hoomanawanui on injured reserve, the move opened the door for tight end Chris Manhertz, a converted college basketball player, to make the initial 53-man roster.
