The New Orleans Saints face long odds at making the playoffs.

Their latest loss put them three games behind the NFC South co-leading Atlanta Falcons and Tampa Bay Buccaneers with three games to go.

That leaves the most likely scenario for the Saints to reach the playoffs at winning their last three games, with the Falcons and Bucs each losing their last three contests.

If that happens, the Saints would be crowned as NFC South champions based on the common-opponent tiebreaker and host a first-round playoff game on the first full weekend in January.

Another potential playoff path would require the Saints to catch only one of those teams in the standings and get help from other teams to claim the second wild-card spot, which would give the Saints' a No. 6 seed.

Neither is likely to happen.
