The New Orleans Saints have signed tight end Brandon Dillon. The move was announced by Executive Vice President/General Manager Mickey Loomis.

Dillon, 6 feet 5, 250 pounds, was originally signed by the Minnesota Vikings as an undrafted free agent in 2019 out of Marian. He has appeared in five games in the past three seasons and recorded one reception for six yards in a win over the Carolina Panthers on Nov. 29, 2020. The Flora, Ind., native played in one regular season contest for Minnesota in 2021, also spending 13 weeks on the team's practice squad and the final two weeks of the season on the New York Jets practice squad.

Dillon was a standout at NAIA Marian, located in Indianapolis, earning first-team All-Mid State Football Association honors as a junior and senior. He garnered NAIA All-America honors as a senior in 2018 with 35 catches for 603 yards (17.2 average) with five touchdowns, while playing in all 11 games. As a junior in 2017, he finished with 34 catches for 532 yards and four touchdowns.

Today, in Reading Way Too Much into This NEWS... The Saints bring in a journeyman tight end ahead of next month's training camp. Although still very young, the NAIA standout from Marian, Brandon Dillon, hasn't been able to find his footing in the NFL. This could spell desperation for the Saints who don't have a clear cut front runner at the tight end position. This signing doesn't inspire hope that Taysom Hill will be ready by training camp as the front office as suggested. That or wavering faith that Adam Trautman is ready to become the dynamic starter the Saints envisioned when handing him the job last year. Trautman had shown promise before a very up and down sophomore season. This move could also mean that the Saints are now having second thoughts about the rest of the TE room. Do the Saints see Dillon as a better option than Nick Vannett, the 2016 3rd round pick for Seattle who is himself on his 4th team with only 84 career receptions. Or perhaps it's a sign that the team is unhappy with Juwan Johnson's speed and agility, after bulking up to help his transition from WR to TE. Johnson is now 250 pounds in preparation for a second year at tight end after playing at 235 pounds last season. Adding a tight end to the roster may not mean much. HOWEVER, it may also mean everything.

There's no way to know for sure, but here at Reading Way Too Much into This NEWS, we'll bring you the latest news and all the speculation on what it could mean. Now back to Sally in the studio...Sally.
