New Orleans Saints: The Case for Reuben Foster (1 Viewer)

Is anybody worried about Foster's shoulder? For a linebacker that thing could be recurring if its bad enough.

Oddly enough, seems that the top linebackers today all have some nagging issue.

Long as it isn't concussions like Keuchley, I say roll those dice and hope and pray we can teach him proper tackling technique.

Of course, I wonder if worry about injury is why Zach Cunningham prefers to reach tackle. He's still high on my want list too.

If Solo not there at 11 Rueben Foster is my 11th pick.
I'm looking forward to more threads and info on Solomon.

Can you shed any light on him?
What makes him #11 good?

The thing that scares me about him is he doesn't always wrap up. Maybe I'm just scared of that because of the Tebucky Jones nightmares.

All you have to do is Google "Solomon Thomas scouting report" or something like that. You'll get plenty of info.

Strengths
Angular build, well-built frame. His mother, father and uncle were all collegiate athletes. Lined up at multiple positions. Has ravenous approach to the game. Gets out of the blocks quickly and attacks with early, skilled hands. Stays hungry and wants to feast. Powerful for his size. Shows ability to win with power or quickness. Outstanding athleticism. Fluid in his play. Transitions from move to move. Unpredictable pass rush. Attacks both the edges and can crank up a bull rush. Uses swipes, rips and arm-over to unlock his rush. Hands and feet work in unison. Has lightning-quick spin move he can access to unhinge from block and find new life in his rush. Violent disengagements from blocks leave no doubt blocker is whipped. Relentless approach combined with athleticism makes block recoveries extremely difficult in run or pass. Refuses extended engagements to blockers and works himself free. Will sniff out gaps and make himself skinny into the backfield. Very good pursuit speed and range as playmaker.

Bottom Line
Explosive defender who combines strength, quickness, and a muscle-car motor to drive him around the field making play after play. Has the hands and feet to be a quick-win specialist and the size to fit as a 4-3 or 3-4 defensive end who can reduce inside for pass-rush downs. He has all the athletic traits to become a high-impact player and possesses more than enough skill and talent to believe he will continue to elevate his game as a pro. Thomas has the potential to become the best defender from this draft class and a future all-pro.

Thanks.

I know how to google.
I was simply prodding him to talk more about the guy he hopes we draft.

Appreciate the info you posted.
Do you see him producing well in the NFL?

Just cause I really hope we draft him, I know we won't or he won't drop to us. But if you have a rookie LB in the middle killing people on the field, that will energize the whole defense. Not to mention, looks like fournette will go to Carolina and he has proven multiple times that he can take on fournette and win.

Id be fine with him but only if we were able to nab a DE/CB in FA. Insert him in at WLB and it means you have to use Vaccaro covering RB's less. I saw some plays from a year or two ago where teams would exploit how we used Vaccaro because he was our best coverage player. So they'd throw out a formation that put him on a RB who'd just run a dummy route and then they'd attack the weaker player in coverage on a slot WR/TE.

Yet you have to worry about his injury history and concussion history and like its been pointed out...his instincts are marginal. I definitely wouldn't see his as a Mike early on...he doesn't trigger and shoot like Kuechly...he honestly plays patiently like Ellerbe but his closing speed/burst/agility you just can't make up for. He's got light feet and it allows him to make plays that a slower footed LB who took a misstep couldn't make.

I still see guys like Tyus Bowser or Zach Cunningham as more likely options because of their skillsets...and Bowser is no slouch in coverage...but i like the intimidation factor Reuben + Kenny would bring. We lost some of that energy when Vaccaro went out...some of that thump..that tenacity and aggressiveness and I do think Foster is a tone setter. Good defenses impose their will on their opponents and Foster is the type of guy who could aid that energy.

With that being said I expect Nolan to have a significant impact on Anthony thus not really needing to draft a LB early because a Situationaly aware/ Football intelligent Anthony is the best LB on the team...easily.

“They’re getting an excellent coach in Mike Nolan,” Koetter said. “Grew up as the son of a coach in the NFL. Mike’s an extremely intelligent coach. Great with situational football. I was so impressed with the way he coached the defense in that area. I wish he was in another division besides ours.”

Foster is about my favorite pick, but we'll have to trade up to get him. I think we should.

I would be ok but only a few notches up. I would give up a fourth or possibly a third position swap.
