The New Orleans Saints will hold the 11th selection in the 2017 NFL Draft after they ended a third consecutive season with a 7-9 record Sunday.
That will be one spot higher than where the Saints selected rookie defensive tackle Sheldon Rankins out of Louisville in 2016 and two spots ahead of where they selected offensive lineman Andrus Peat out of Stanford in 2015.
The 2017 selection will be the highest for the Saints since they used the No. 7 selection in 2008 on defensive tackle Sedrick Ellis.
Recent No. 11 picks include three-time defensive player of the year J.J. Watt by the Houston Texans in 2011 and two-time Pro Bowl selection Dontari Poe at defensive tackle by the Kansas City Chiefs in 2012.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers selected starting cornerback Vernon Hargreaves out of Florida in 2016.
