The NFL is reportedly reexamining a proposal to widen the dimensions of the field to promote a safer game environment, which would give the NFL a field width more similar to the CFL, according to Dan Pompei.

The proposed advantage of a wider field would be that the player would be unable to build as much straight-line momentum, an advantage former competition committee member Bill Polian, who built CFL teams before moving to the NFL in the late '80s, supports.

Bill Polian seems to be behind a lot of these stupid rule changes.

Why don't we just make the field 10 yards long so that players don't have much time to build up speed.

"Hey guys let's change a lot of stupid random little stuff so we can cover our *** during the lawsuits we brought on ourselves!"

If they keep going through with these stupid rule changes, Soccer will be the #1 sport in the US by 2025, and will take over the official title of "Football" to fall in line with the rest of the world.

If they do that, why not the 12th man, 55-yard line, the 20-yard end zones and the rouge? Oh, and eliminate 4th down.

Go big or go home!

FWIW, I think Breesus would hit a higher plane of excellence in the new NF-C-FL.

This is probably going to happen anyway
2 things have historically hindered soccer's rise in the US:
1- no tradition (but now as many young kids practice soccer as football)
2- bad advertising setup for soccer ie uninterrupted 45 min halves (now with so much content going online big $$ advertisers are going to need a MUCH different model)

Would football stadiums even have the room to do this at their current size? Is this a way to hold cities for ransom for newer stadiums? Renovations?

Maybe it would have to go the route of the baseball field, where each football field would be non-standard and fitted to the dimensions of the stadium?

Ours would have to be kinda egg shaped, with a bulge at midfield :hihi:
