It started when Warner won the MVP in 01. Essentially, no league MVP has won a SB in the same season since Warner in 99 (Beat Titans).
01: Warner is MVP. Rams lose to Pats in SB
02: Gannon wins MVP. Raiders get beaten by Bucs in SB.
05: Alexander is MVP. Seahawks get beaten by Steelers in SB.
07: Brady wins MVP. Pats lose to Giants in SB.
09: We know
13: Manning wins MVP. Broncos get destroyed in SB
15: Scam wins MVP. Panthers get destroyed by Denver.
16: Lol...we know...
17: Brady wins MVP. Pats lose to Birds in SB.
If there's ever a reason to "Hope" Mahomes wins it, this is it. It's almost as if the football gods decide that winning MVP is enough hardware for one weekend.
If there's a guy (And team) that has a great shot of breaking said curse, it's definitely Brees.
