Hey, maybe Jeremy Shockey( or whoever) can drop in next week for some more motivational pep before the game, each week a new fluff
That is a point.... and it is a good point that I hadn't really considered. His stepping down had a HUGE impact on the wind in my sails because it was just a strange way to go IMO. Most teams get the normal "head coach is fired, moves on to a better gig or an old successful coach retires and rides off into the sunset." We get this weird kinda-gone but really still here but I'll be back real soon with someone else thing. It is just plain strange and the type of thing that seems to happen to the Saints. The closest thing to compare it to that I can recall is Dick Vermeil. This is still Payton’s team and that’s a challenge for Allen. People have talked about the loss of CJGJ being a letdown but now that I’m not clouded by optimism, I see that losing a coach like Payton took a lot of wind out of the sails of this team. Really it doesn’t seem like a surprise that they look flat and unmotivated. As much as fans hated Payton leaving, consider the effect it had on the players.
Edit: I misunderstood the comment of no one wanting Allen actually meaning no team wanted him. But the rest still stands. The most telling part of the whole thing was, no one else wanted Allen. And I dont buy that he had some gentlemans agreement in place with Loomis. It makes more sense that he have other suitors to either drive up his price, or get the Saints to move quicker. He had 1 interview with another team, Chicago maybe, but it was canceled before it happened - and before the Saints hired Allen.
I think around the league, most higher ups probably though, they really went with that guy huh?
He meant no other teamThat's just not true. Allen had his share of supporters. There were more than a handful of posters here who liked the idea of continuity and building on the talent the team already had and thought Winston would perform better than he has.
It's just revisionist history to say no one wanted Allen. I wanted Allen over some of the other coaches interviewed. There were other coaches I wanted, but they either got hired or the Saints didn't interview them. I was thinking Bienemy would be the pick.
I think Allen has been worse than expected and if the team doesn't improve between now and the end of the season, I hope the team moves on from him. I think we've seen enough to know he's not the answer.
To be fair I think the point 44slayer was making was that Allen wasn't getting any attention for NFL coaching jobs, not that he wasn't getting any support from fans on this site or in general. I'm not sure if he made a good point or not, but I think that was the point he was making. That's just not true. Allen had his share of supporters. Ah, I missed that then. Thanks. He meant no other team
I had to go see what she was about. I remember her from Dr. Phil episode. So you allow Ciara to come in and flirt with the team, only to set them up with Bhad Bhabie the next following weeks? Make this make sense!!!!
I disagree with the revisionist part and that many people settled for Allen and bought the continuity rationale. Some posters were very opposed to hiring Allen, one guy got banned, I think. We're just going through the motions at this point, hoping that Loomis doesn't do what we fear the most-give him another year.Edit: I misunderstood the comment of no one wanting Allen actually meaning no team wanted him. A lot of posters opposed hiring Allen, and posters don't get banned for that reason. They get banned for violating the site TOS.I disagree with the revisionist part and that many people settled for Allen and bought the continuity rationale.
