I usually don't get into stats that much but I think this one is interesting.
Look at the top 10 teams in scoring defense:
1. Colts 16.4 ppg
2. Steelers 16.8 ppg
3. Bucs 16.9 ppg
4. Patriots 17.1 ppg
5. Chargers 17.8 ppg
6. Packers 18.2 ppg
7. Seahawks 18.2 ppg
8. Titans 18.6 ppg
9. Eagles 18.8 ppg
10. Jaguars 19.0 ppg
9 of these 10 teams made the playoffs. The Saints were 25th in scoring defense at 24.2 ppg
this year. Last year we were 13th in scoring defense at 20.1 ppg.
I think as long as Payton is the head coach, the offense will always be the strength of this
team, but if the defense can improve enough where we are ranked in or near the 10 ten in scoring we should be okay.
PS - I checked the Saints scoring defense for the 1992 season and we were ranked #1 - 12.6 ppg.
