Both teams who played in this year's NFC Championship Game, the Saints and the Rams, will be without one of their players at the start of the season due to suspensions triggered by violations of the NFL's substance abuse policy.
Saints defensive tackle David Onyemata will be barred from the first game of the regular season at home against the Houston Texans on Monday, Sept. 9.
Onyemata was cited in February of 2019 for marijuana possession.
Onyemata, a 2016 fourth-round selection, has played in all 48 regular-season games in his career and started in four last season. He generated 35 tackles, 4 1/2 sacks and one forced fumble.
Onyemata will be eligible to return for the team's Week 2 tilt against the Rams.
