Speculation NFL TRADE RUMORS - How the Saints can leverage trade for Russell Wilson (1 Viewer)

Seattle is not going to want to take on Mike Thomas' salary with the WRs they already have. I also don't see Jameis as much of a carrot. Oh, and who exactly is Wilson going to be throwing to if Thomas is gone?

Agree on all of that.

What we would have to do to make this work is find a way to get Seattle a suitable QB replacement. What *could* work in our favor is that Seattle won a SB and went to another when Russ was on a rookie deal, so that may be the route they’d choose to go again.

We also know Pete loves defense. And Seattle could really use a lockdown CB. You know where I’m going with this.

So I could see us sending them our 1, our 2, two future 1s and Lattimore. Then Seattle would have draft capital to go get their QB and they would get their CB in Lattimore.

Would it hurt? Yeah. But a franchise QB is worth it every time.

I would love to have Wilson. That is an interesting trade scenario. It would require us signing Winston to a contract that both he and Seattle would be okay with. I would hate to lose Thomas, who would be an incredible weapon for Russell, but then again, it would help with the cap situation and we'd have our answer at QB for a pretty good while.

I can’t see Seattle wanting to acquire Thomas with having Metcalf and Lockett. If Metcalf continues developing, he’ll command a contract like Thomas’, while Lockett is a UFA after 2021. I think they’d want OL and defensive help before that.

not if it's going to costs us too many players plus draft picks, then we wouldn't be any better with Wilson than we would be if Winston was able to turn his career around
Compensation is key. Since we don't know what it would take it's kinda hard to say. Knowing our coach he would feel like Russ has cooked in the past without top level receivers and so has Brees. I mean we won a ring with Devery, Moore and Meach. None of those guys were legit #1 receivers. Sean has a way of scheming to win. Look at this year. We won alot of games without Thomas and some without Drew.

I wish the coaches would fly to Houston and talk to Watson like they did Clowney! I know, Watson is still under contract, I just think that man is phenomenal ever since he single handedly beat Bama.
If they did , we would lose a lot of draft picks. Violates multiple league rules. Watson is under contract to the the Texans. End of story.

It’s too much to give up. I think Russ would be great here but not if we have to sacrifice Thomas AND 2 firsts.
I think Seattle might give him up for less. They don’t treat Russ like a franchise QB. He has all the traits but it’s just not who they are. Either Carrol needs to go or Russ does because they’re limiting his potential.

If the Seahawks agree to that.... Again... You take Rus (SB champ / MVP candidate / Top 5 QB) and laugh all the way to a Lombardi... or 2 or 3.....

He's worth every bit of the 1st round picks... that's a given... (people here waaaay overvalue draft picks)

Mike Thomas is a great player.... But he's not a dynamic player (think guys like Kamara, Tyreke Hill, George Kittle).... And he does not play a preium position (QB, CB, or Pass Rusher) He can be (and has been) taken out of games by teams with the personnel to be physical with him and take away his ability to get inside. He can be replaced.

Winston is not even on the team, and there is no indication that he will be...

This would be a dream trade... Which is why it won't happen.

Thanks for the groundbreaking response. Of course I know that, hence the "I know he's under contract" portion. This is more about getting Watson vs Wilson.

I know many will roll their eyes, but I legit believe Taysom would work in a Pete Carroll style offense. He definitely wouldn’t be asked to be a pocket passer(which we know he isn’t). And Pete can have the ball control offense that he’s been dying to recreate since the early L.O.B. days.
