Nick Underhill thinks Carr will be Saints starter [mod edit: Moore-Carr meeting went well; Saints plan is to keep Carr in 2025 & figure out contract] (221 Viewers)

Do most GMs say that they are confident they have a QB they can lose with?
Mick fails at acknowledging the gray area; he did the same with the deer.

Hopefully, and I think, this marriage will only last one more year and is mostly because of the cap cost of cutting him this year. It gives me hope that Nick says that the Saints really like Cam Ward and it sound like if he fell to #9 (he won't), they would draft him. It also sounds like they would trade up for him, but the cost is too high right now.
Good thing we won a few meaningless games under Rizzi!

Everybody during the season has such blinders. It's obvious last year's team was going nowhere but everyone was so thrilled we won against a crap Giants team.

A few worthless wins might keep us out of reach of the QB they want.

I have been pretty vocal about wanting to move on from Carr (and no, not because I have some personal vendetta, it is just what I personally think is best for the team). But, if Carr IS the plan for 2025 then I hope like hell they trade down in this draft and recoup another first rounder next year so that we have the ammo to move up in 2026 for a QB, rather than mortgage future draft picks. Because we all know that Carr as QB1 = drafting in the teens. We’ll win just enough to keep us out of the top 5. And even if Carr balls out he is not the long term solution here.
If Carr is the starter next year we won’t need to move up. This is terrible news for a team that needs to blow it up in the worst way.

I mean sure. But NFL GM is a PR job even if Mickey really doesn't care what anyone else thinks.

I'm just saying no GM is going to come out and say. Our QB sucks. Our team sucks. And, we can't do much about it because we can't cut the QB to create money and we don't have enough draft picks to fix what is wrong this year. So, we are going to try to be competitive this year knowing that we will likely suck because we want you to buy tickets and concessions.

The financials of cutting Carr have never made sense. They didn’t make sense two months ago and don’t today.

So what’s Moore going to do? Bench the best QB on the roster so he can hitch himself to a 5th round, second-year QB who went 0-7 last year just because? Maybe Moore builds a relationship with Rattler and becomes comfortable betting on him, but that’s going to take time.

Cutting Carr And starting Rattler would be a feel-good move for the fans, but it doesn’t add up otherwise. None of this means Carr is the QB in ‘26 or that we are making a long term commitment. It’s one bridge season and we see where it goes. As long as we keep chipping away at the cap issues, nothing really changes. It’s still a rebuild.

If that were true then keeping Carr would be fine. The issue is that Carr is just good enough to get you in the range of 7 to 9 wins which likely doesn't get you in the playoffs but also keeps you picking out of range of the top QBs.

Looks like Mickey wants to push out the rebuild yet again. It makes a bit of sense cap wise to just keep him 1 more year then cut him June 1st designation next season, I was just hoping we’d move on from the guy we all know will not be here in 2026.

Agreed, the issue this creates however is you’re never putting yourself in the position to be the top or near the top of the draft to get one of the top QBs of that class. So if Carr Plays 15-17 games this year we’re going to have a pick as best as 12-14 in my opinion. What that means is come 2026 even when we move on from him, our cap will be better and we will be in a position to where we can actually spend a little money in free agency, the problem is we will not have our quarterback. And we will not be in a position to draft one especially after beefing up the roster in free agency 2026. I totally understand the cap implications and it makes sense financially to keep him until next year, but for the future of the roster construction, it does create a bit of a conundrum.

Add a piece or two the the OL, add a WR and/or TE, improve the DL and Secondary, and we could be 8-9 or 9-8 with Carr if the wheels don't fall off again injury-wise.
Not much separates NFL teams. With Carr and some improvements around him, we could at least have a respectable team again. Who knows with Rattler or rookie? Doubtful we'd be any better than .500.

I'm good either way. I do think that Starting Carr says we don't think Rattler is the future, so in that context, we need to look at every QB coming out of college really close this year and next. I'm also good with keeping Carr and drafting QBs (wherever in the draft) until we find the right one... Even as Saintsreport melts down when we draft another questionable QB with a 3rd or 4th round pick.

It was always a big ask to think Moore would willingly put himself in a position to not win.

Heck, he might win six or seven games with Rattler. This team when healthy is not nearly as awful as some suggest.

It’s hard to only win 3-4 games and get a top 5 pick. That level of suck takes effort, and in our crappy division, it’s even tougher to be that bad.

I feel that this is the year the damn breaks. We don’t have very much skill wise and the Oline needs major help.

I feel like this is going to be a huge backwards year with yet another offensive coordinator, but we’ll see.
