Nick Underhill thinks Carr will be Saints starter [mod edit: Moore-Carr meeting went well; Saints plan is to keep Carr in 2025 & figure out contract] (201 Viewers)

My biggest fear is finishing middle of a pack and missing out on a top QB next year. He’s not bad enough to the point we will only win 2 games or not good enough to where I say we are winning 10 lol.
Carr was on fire for the 1st 2 games, before everyone got hurt! I think if he has weapons, he'll do great, and can get us to the Superbowl. He's not going to do it almost single-handedly, but I think he's better than many QBs that have gotten their teams to the Superbowl.

Im not believing anyhting until opening day

i just want whats best for the offense and trust CKM makes the best choice

How are all of you so sure that Mickey Loomis does not believe that Carr is a longer term answer at QB? Everyone seems to assume that Loomis knows Carr isn’t the QB of the future and will get rid of him next year. I agree that it is obvious Carr should mot be the future at QB, but I’ve seen no evidence that Loomis believes that.

This makes sense, it gives the new coach time to find a viable backup and a possible replacement for Carr.

The only evidence I can point to is a Dianna Russini podcast segment where she said (paraphrasing) that Loomis was telling Moore and other coaching candidates that he knows the roster needs an overhaul and there will be a year or two of rebuilding for the next coach.

It wasn't specific to Carr but that gave me some hope. But everything Loomis has said or done suggests that he wants to keep on keeping on.

Along with reports today that Carrs contract will need some work and we plan to be aggressive in free agency. Sounds like pushing Carrs’ cap hit further down the road to me.

Because I think if he did, he would have already given him a contract extension to ease the cap hits from Carr's contract. That and all the information coming out that many in the building wanted to cut him this year and the main reason they didn't is because of the cap hit they would take from cutting him. Plus, he's going to be 34 in a month so even if Loomis thought he was the long term answer, that's not possible given his age.

Beyond that, I don't think Moore is dumb enough to think Carr is the long term answer and Mickey's going to do what Moore wants.

Sounds like either Carr taking a pay cut or just the normal decisions on how much of his salary to convert to a bonus to get under the cap to me.

It was always a big ask to think Moore would willingly put himself in a position to not win.

Heck, he might win six or seven games with Rattler. This team when healthy is not nearly as awful as some suggest.

It’s hard to only win 3-4 games and get a top 5 pick. That level of suck takes effort, and in our crappy division, it’s even tougher to be that bad.
Yet we won 5 games last year and Carr played in 10 of them lol. Yes we were very injured but our leaders on defense are now an extra year older and slower. And don’t forget Taysom is likely gone.

If the understanding from the org is let’s say to get the roster overhauled over the next 2 years then they may be fine with not competing until then when we are a normal cap space having team.

I feel that this is the year the damn breaks. We don’t have very much skill wise and the Oline needs major help.

I feel like this is going to be a huge backwards year with yet another offensive coordinator, but we’ll see.
Dudes going to set the record for most OCs played under when his career is all said and done.

People who want to cut Carr don't really understand the dire nature of the cap situation.
It can be done if they do not overspend in FA. Just a matter of whether they want to spend another $30 million on Carr knowing he is not the future. The problem is that he is good enough to get us to 7-9 wins which just puts you out of reach of the potential franchise QB 2 drafts from now.

He already said he wouldn’t do that. Which is crappy imo but his decision.

I know he said it, but that doesn't mean he can't change his mind and I'm not sure what other financial things they would need to talk about since all the restructuring stuff can be done without talking to Carr or getting his consent. Maybe that's not what it is, but there is some hope.
