Underhill thinks Carr will be Saints starter [mod edit: Moore-Carr meeting went well; Saints plan is to keep Carr in 2025 & figure out contract] (371 Viewers)

I heard the quote. I don't care how emphatically he said it. People change their minds and situations change. I doubt Carr changes his mind, but it is possible.
If you doubt he changes his mind then what are we even talking about? lol there’s a million different things that are possible we don’t discuss every single one of them, have to be realistic. If someone says it thenselves, it’s more likely true than not.

I'm talking about the fact that Nick said they still needed to work out some financial details. That could mean a pay cut for Carr. Why are you so committed to Carr not taking a pay cut?

People say sheet all the time that they go back on. In negotiations people always say I won't take a penny less that X and then in a few days they take many pennies lower than X. Nobody even asked him about a pay cut. He volunteered the information. That sounds a lot like a negotiation strategy to limit the amount of pay cut you will accept if you hear the right things.

Because the man said it himself he wouldn’t not even entertain that idea.

The exact quote was “I wouldn't take a pay cut. Yeah, I wouldn't do that. Especially with what I put on tape. Would I restructure? Absolutely.”….”But yeah, I wouldn't take anything less to do this. It's hard enough putting our bodies through it. And you're trying to get everything you can for your family for it."

You’re saying he was not asked any question when he stated the above. It was just him and a reporter staring at eachother and he just volunteered this info??

What if he hadn't talked to his agent yet?

What if the guy was having a bad day and was in an angry mood?

What if it was a negotiation strategy?

What if after talking to the HC and GM about the how and why and what it could do for the team, a meeting of the minds was had?

There's a lot of possible room for a guy to change his mind on things. Carr is not a programmed robot and quotes said to the media are not bible.

That’s the second time I heard someone say negotiation….what is he negotiating??? He’s soon to be a 34 year old career under 500 QB who has been average in ever sense of the word. There is no new contract to negotiate. The only thing he possibly has to “negotiate” is are you getting cut this year or next.

Players rarely take pay cuts, and Carr said he would not. Mick gave him a terrible contract and is about to give him more long-term security. It may have been a precondition of Moore accepting the job.

It’s possible Carr takes a $48 million pay cut as well and has a $2 million cap hit this year. I mean hey it’s possible! should we start discussing those implications to our cap since it’s possible?

He has a “difficult” cap number and the team literally just indicated that they’re working on contract stuff with him.

Why are you so hung up on semantics and things and getting seemingly upset about petty word usage or the prospects of a guy possibly :::gasp::: changing his mind? Is this how you normally react to not getting something you want?

I have been saying all along that I believe and think this team believes it is not as bad as it is made out to be and that the organization feels as though it can win with this basic core with help in some key areas, better coaching and health added, and cutting Carr would basically zap that opportunity.
Agree, whether or not they're deluding themselves on how close they are to being a contender is a different discussion.

FWIW, in the latest NOF article, it has been said by sources off the record that the contract talks with Carr involve more than just a simple restructure.

I just think it is wishful thinking that Carr is taking a pay cut. I would certainly love that. However, everything is signaling restructure since we are going to be “active” in free agency. Cap room has to come from somewhere. Which means it would be even harder to cut him next year. It appears Carr is the longer term solution than what we expect.

I just dug through Carr's career wins. Only 23 of Carr’s 77 wins are against teams that finished with better than .500 records. 169 career total starts, 23 wins against teams with winning records. I'm sure it wasn't his fault though, so let give him another $30m this year.
No playoff wins. One playoff game iirc? How many seasons?

I have zero against the guy but he is what he is, and it ain’t the future. I also love how it’s never his fault. 😂

I’m good with him staying another year or two if that’s what they feel is best. He can drive the tank (and it will be a tank) just fine.

Nail these next two drafts. That is what matters. Period.
