NO-SF GRADES: Drew Brees Earns Game-High Grade in Saints Win

By Wes Huber -- Pro Football Focus

Here are the top takeaways and highest-graded players from the New Orleans Saints’ 41-23 Week 9 victory over the San Francisco 49ers:

New Orleans Saints

Quarterback grade: Drew Brees, 82.9

Another day at the office for Mr. Brees

Drew Brees left the field in this one as the game’s top player. The 49ers were able to pressure Brees on seven dropbacks, but on the 12 plays on which they utilized a blitz, Brees instantly identified the coverage flaws and averaged 13.8 yards per attempt at an 83.3 completion percentage. Brees proved especially lethal targeting depths of 10 yards or greater, completing 7-of-11 such attempts for 145 yards, including a 32-yard strike to rookie WR Michael Thomas.

One of the greatest ever.

Just such an absolute treat to have him on our side each week.

On top of being a great player (without "ideal" size for the position)......listening to his postgame interviews is fantastic.

He is such a great leader, has a pulse on EVERYTHING, and is really having fun as the old man on a team of young and hungry players.

I've never been that into stats, except when it involves our guy becoming the greatest statistical QB OF ALL TIME.....if he keeps up at this pace for 2 more seasons (and he certainly has the young WR and steady OL to do it)...he will pass every record in the book.

Now that is exciting.

This season has a real 2011 feel to it if the defense can get its act/health together.

"Top defensive grades:

FS Jairus Byrd, 79.2"

Freeze warning in Hell tonight.

He was so noticeable in this game. Seemed like he was in on more plays this game than the whole season combined. I hope this is a trend going forward.

He's surgical.

I remember that throw to Brandon Coleman on 3 rd and short ... that football landed squarely between the 1 and the 6 on his jersey IN FULL STRIDE. Brees has been magical. It's a thing of beauty to watch.
